The X livestreaming feature is going to be limited to Premium subscribers soon.
The news was confirmed by the official Live profile via an X post. While no date has been specified just yet, the post says that free users can no longer stream on the platform.
This is inclusive of livestreaming via an encoder platform with the X integration.
Users who want to continue livestreaming on X will have to pay for the platform’s Premium subscription. This will cost users 8 dollars monthly or 84 dollars yearly (~PHP 500-4900).
X Premium also offers the blue checkmark, among other exclusive features like creator subscriptions, larger posts, and fewer ads.
“Starting soon, only Premium subscribers will be able to livestream (create live video streams) on X. This includes going live from an encoder with X integration. Upgrade to Premium to continue going live,” says the company.
This move is an example of how Elon Musk has been trying to find more ways to increase the platform’s revenue. Earlier this year, Musk suggested charging a small fee to let new accounts
post on X to lessen spam and bots.
Free users would be limited to following other accounts and reading posts if this pushed through.
