Along with the launch of the Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G, Xiaomi has also introduced its latest Android interface, the MIUI 12. It is the first Android-based mobile OS that went through enhanced privacy protection testing by TUV Rheinland. Upgrades and new features are as follows:
Super wallpaper– MIUI 12 now comes with different live wallpapers for the lock, home, and standby screens featuring the beauty of the galaxy. This includes satellite images of planets and other heavenly bodies that zoom in from a space-level view to an aerial view.
Dynamic Weather- the system’s dedicated weather app features animations for rain, thunderstorms, and other climate changes.
Recording reminder- This privacy feature of the MIUI 12 comes in three modes: Flare, Barbed Wire, and Mask System. These modes keep a log of all the sensitive information and app permissions accessed by an installed mobile app from the phone. In Flare, it asks user permissions when an app wants to access the cameras, GPS location, and microphone of the smartphone. While the Mask System restricts untrusted apps to access sensitive information such as passwords and contacts, the Barbed Wire System grants users to allow either once, every time, or reject the app’s request for the cameras, GPS location, and microphone.
Application permissions- It grants app permissions only when necessary, with the consent of the user, and prohibits the app’s suspicious behaviors such as the use of cameras in the background.
Health recording- It keeps records of steps and sleep, including time, duration of deep sleep, and snoring.
Video toolbox- It supports screen recording, screenshot, and screencasting functions while watching videos in the background. This tool also enhances audio and video quality and style.
The MIUI 12 also brings other features such as:
These phones are confirmed to receive the MIUI 12 update: Xiaomi 10 Pro, Xiaomi 10, Xiaomi 10 Youth Edition, Redmi K30 Pro, Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G, Xiaomi 9 Transparent Edition, Xiaomi 9, Redmi K20 Pro Premier Edition, Redmi K20 Pro, Xiaomi 8 Transparent Edition, Xiaomi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition, Xiaomi 8, and Xiaomi Mix3.
Stay tuned for updates on its roll-out schedule and additional supported devices.
