Xiaomi’s President, Lu Weibing, has confirmed that the Mix Fold 3 loaded with Leica-tuned cameras will be released in August.
The announcement was made in response to a question on Weibo, in the comments section of a post about Xiaomi’s new factory upgrade. The Mix Fold 3 will be the first model to be produced in the new Smart Factory and will feature Leica-branded cameras.
According to sources, the manufacturing systems have been upgraded to make the new foldable both thinner and stronger than its predecessor.
While the Mix Fold 2 measured 11.2mm thick when folded, the Mix Fold 3 is said to be even thinner. However, just like its predecessor, the Mix Fold 3 reportedly remains exclusive to China and will not receive a global launch.
The Mix Fold 3 is also expected to come with an under-display selfie camera on the main folding screen, a 5x periscope zoom lens on the rear, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and 4,800mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities.
The Mix Fold 3 is about to face some fierce competition in the ever-growing foldable phone market. Joining the party this quarter are Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, the HONOR Magic V2, and the OnePlus foldable. And let’s not forget about other contenders like the Google Pixel Fold, OPPO Find N2, vivo X Fold 2, and HUAWEI Mate X3.
