YouTube Shorts is rewarding content creators with new features to succeed on the platform, focusing on monetization and growth opportunities.
Since YouTube introduced the beta of Shorts in 2020, it has grown into a modern avenue for creativity. The platform has given creators more ways to grow communities, seeing an exponential growth as a short form channel.
YouTube Shorts has more than 2 billion monthly users and an average of 70 billion daily views. With this development, here are some of the new features YouTube Shorts is providing to help creators thrive.
Table of Contents
Monetization on Shorts
More than 80% of creators are under the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) by meeting the Shorts eligibility criteria.
But now, these people are earning through various monetization features on the platform. These channels have achieved this through longform advertising, fan funding for exclusive content, and revenue from YouTube Premium subscribers.
As YouTube Partners, creators can access BrandConnect, linking them with opportunities for branded content campaigns. This is also inclusive of Shopping, allowing creators to promote and sell their products.
YouTube Remix
For this feature, creativity is explored as creators now have remixing options that allow certain interactions with content they like.
This means that content creators may repurpose and direct viewers to their older, original work or even another creator’s work. This feature was intended to maximize ways of monetizing a video, even ones that have already aged.
Some of the remixing options now available for creators are inclusive of Sound, Collab, Green Screen, and Cut.
Sound allows creators to extract audio from a video to create a custom soundtrack for their Shorts.
Collab lets creators respond and react to other videos side by side. Using this option, they can engage with a sentimental YouTube moment or jump on a Shorts trend.
Green Screen enables creators to use any eligible YouTube video or Short as the background for a new Short video. This option also allows them to use any photo or video from their own gallery.
Cut makes it easy for creators to trim a 5-second clip from any eligible YouTube video or Short. Users may seamlessly integrate it into their own original Short.
Shorts made with remix content are credited back to the original creator’s source video. This paves way for great opportunities for content to be discovered on Shorts, drawing viewers to creators’ longform videos.
Content Creation & Channel Growth Tools
YouTube Shorts features built-in content creation tools to give users more ways to help themselves reach a bigger audience.
These include interactive effects and stickers, such as Q&A stickers. These enable creators to ask questions and receive responses directly from comments, and even reply to them with a Short.
Additionally, YouTube Shorts also introduced a mobile-first vertical live experience. This lets live creators get discovered in the Shorts feed.
This was applied with the goal of boosting discoverability for creators, allowing them to connect with new audiences. So now, wherever you are in the world, you can build your community as a YouTube Shorts creator.
With creators uploading both Shorts and longer videos, channels are seeing better overall watch time and subscription growth. YouTube is working double-time to introduce more features to inspire creators and deliver relevant content to viewers.
