YouTube is leveling up its Premium subscription perks with the introduction of an enticing gaming feature.
The platform, already a substantial player in the gaming scene, is bringing a new experiment exclusively for YouTube Premium members – ‘Playables.’
This novel feature allows subscribers to engage in over 30 arcade games seamlessly within the YouTube app on Android, iOS, and Web, eliminating the need for any downloads.
This latest addition empowers paying subscribers to activate ‘Playables’ and commence gaming instantly, offering a fresh dimension to their YouTube experience. To unlock the gaming realm on YouTube, users simply launch the app on their Android or iOS devices or visit the YouTube website on the Web.
Navigating through the homepage or the explore menu on the app reveals a dedicated ‘Playables’ shelf. However, the magic only unfolds when users activate the ‘Play games on YouTube’ option found on the experimental features page.
This can be accessed through the mobile app by tapping the profile icon at the bottom right, scrolling down to ‘Your Premium benefits,’ and selecting ‘Try experimental new features.’
It’s essential to note that the ‘Playables’ extravaganza is exclusively available to Premium members until March 28, leaving room for speculation about potential expansions and the introduction of more premium games, akin to the Netflix Games service.
In tandem with ‘Playables,’ YouTube is throwing another experimental feature into the mix for Premium subscribers – AI-powered comments summaries. Running until December 5, this feature employs artificial intelligence to organize and summarize sprawling comment sections on YouTube videos. Users can seamlessly sort topics in any comment section using the YouTube Android and iOS apps, offering a streamlined way to engage with the audience.
However, subscribers must choose between these experimental features, enabling only one at a time.
To access the AI comment summaries, Premium users must temporarily disable ‘Playables.’
Earlier this month, YouTube expanded its enhanced bitrate offering on 1080p videos to Premium users, extending the feature from iOS to Android devices and smart TVs.
