When this package arrived early this week, I thought it was a whole gaming rig considering the size of the box that came with it. All I know is that it’s codenamed Ares. Go take a peek after the jump.
The Asus Ares came in with this huge box/packaging — almost the same size as a mid-tower PC case or a box of a 22-inch monitor.
Unboxed, you get another packaging — this time, a locked, metal briefcase. I had to decipher the number combination but I tried 000 first and, fortunately, it worked.
Inside the briefcase is this gigantic graphics card — the Ares, a dual Radeon HD 5870 video card that comes built-in with 4GB GDDR5 RAM. That’s 2GB per GPU. Wicked!
Asus Ares specs:
ATI Radeon HD 5870 X2
4GB GDDR5 RAM
850MHz Engine Clock Speed
3200 Stream Processors
4GB 1200MHz GDDR5 Memory
256-bit x 2 memory interface
HDMI Output
Display Port
DVI Port
It’s supposed to come with a gaming mouse as well but it wasn’t in the briefcase already when I opened it. Probably the guys who reviewed this before me forgot to put it back.
I’m thinking this card would eat my power supply alive. The box says it requires at least a 750W system power supply in order to work. And if you’re wondering how much each of these babies cost — how does $1,200PHP 70,423INR 101,700EUR 1,143CNY 8,734 sound?

Oh.My.God…that’s all I can say.
J.P says:
Wow!
mickespiritu says:
i think that’s a reasonable price for that kind of specs no?
u have this and an i7 and some (kahit) 4gb lang na RAM… omg…
sana lang they make it more ‘energy-saving’… dba yun ang trend ngayon?
Eason says:
I’m drooling already…. Luxury O_O
paolo g. says:
Looks like a weapon from Mass Effect…
Geek Impact says:
Even if I had the money, I won’t spend that much.
jad says:
Bad ass! but with a 54k price tag, its a pocket digger or maybe its just me. XD
Pusang Kulog says:
I confess, I don’t have any idea as to how this will fit on an ATX Casing…
But as yuga says, it’s definitely WICKED!!!
And if I had the money, I would definitely buy it. Only problem is I don’t… Wehehe!
ocommon says:
Makabili nga nyan, mukhang maganda yung metal briefcase ah…
Jhay says:
I’d buy a Nikon dSLR instead. That thing looks like a component for a Decepticon or something.
This would be perfect for the newest version of Plants vs Zombies! :P
ricardo isip says:
WICKED….. ANG PRICE….
Jean Paul says:
For that price you can already purchase a decent desktop, netbook and an android phone combined!!
Ethan says:
Will it run Crysis? lol
Seriously, that baby right there is currently the best graphics card in the market. Not only will it run Crysis, it will chew it up, spit it out and take a dump on it.
Winziph says:
i like the way it looks, cool.
Earl Joseph says:

Teknisyan says:
For a $1,200, you can already buy yourself a Mac or MBA.
Ethan says:
Oh, you’ll have to at least have a 1000W PSU to safely run this thing. 750 is cutting it close, as you’ll have to leave room for cooling etc.
CarloBlogg Online 3.0 says:
Sir Yuga, are you sure its a video card and not some other behemoth gadget? :D
$1,200 for a videocard??? Well, this one packs a punch so you get what you pay for. :D This will eat your PC games alive! :D
Jeric says:
If Manny Pacquiao is my Dad, he can probably buy me a dozen of these stuff… Just wishin. ;)
Probably I’ll just buy the briefcase instead (hope its cheaper), looks cool!

makabili nga nyan para malaro ko na yung Pet Society ko… LOL hahaha :)
kennz says:
Sorry but, I am not convinced. Shedding that much just for this once piece of hardware.
Quad SLI or Crossfire is far better than deploying one of these.
Its always better not to put all your eggs in 1 basket.
Just my two cents.
hdkfhdsf says:
