Ideapad Y550P: Lenovo’s 1st Core i7 Laptop

Last week, Lenovo showed us their very first gaming laptop running an Intel Core i7 processor. With a 15.6-inch screen, the Ideapad Y550P packs a good punch that could beat most desktops out there.

Wasn’t sure if the Core i7 processor was rated at just 1.6GHz but since it’s got Turbo Boost Technology, I think the CPU can overclock on its own when the need arises.

You get a Core i7 CPU, 500GB HDD, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 240M with 1GB RAM, a Blueray drive and Windows 7 Home Premium. The 15.6″ screen has a resolution of 1366×768 pixels.

The laptop was previewed during their evening Media Christmas Party so I wasn’t prepared and didn’t brought my dSLR with me. However, I managed to play around with it and ran Windows Experience Index which gave me this results:

This model will be available in the market starting January 2010 and will have a suggested retail price in the vicinity of Php95,000USD 1,619INR 137,237EUR 1,542CNY 11,790+.

  4. 8gig DDR3 RAM. WOW.

  5. Too expensive huh. The 3g wind is already enough for me. Looking forward to that sir yuga.Hehe

  6. ang mahal!

  7. That thing is a monster!
    like it’s tag price.

thats for Gamer Heaven or for multimedia guys.

  8. Little expensive but great features can overcome the price. I like the decorated glossy top finish that makes this laptop super stylish ! memory capabilities seems pretty superb!

  9. too expensive if just for games… well for me thats too expensive, i dont know the others… huhuhu :p

  10. This is a very expensive laptop, specs are great but how about battery life? If only you can squeeze at least 10 hrs using it, and I mean, 3D gaming, graphics processing or movie making. Then it would be a great laptop.

  11. “Core i7 CPU, 500GB HDD, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 240M with 1GB RAM” woah! and so is the price! sana ito na ung mystery major price ng giveaway. lol!

  12. Nice specs but very expensive. I wonder how it compares to Asus gaming laptop (Asus G51J-A1).

  13. Wow! I want one minus the price! ahaha!

  14. Sad to see that I/O is still the bottleneck even with workstation class desktops/laptops :(

  15. Or you could get this one from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146613&cm_re=y550-_-34-146-613-_-Product

    lenovo IdeaPad Y550 (324156U) NoteBook Intel Core i7 720QM(1.60GHz) 15.6″ 4GB Memory 500GB HDD DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M – Retail
for $999 = 46000 pesos add P5000 for johnnyair cargo and 51k total! half the price!

  16. I’m glad they started introducing Core i7 on laptop but with that price tag of Php95T? it’s soooo astronomical. I’ll better wait for a while may be other manufacturers will introduce some with better deals.

  17. I can assemble 2 super gaming PC out of the tag price. he he he!

  18. not surprise with the price tag. As for the moment expect a hefty price when it comes to i7.

  19. *drools*

  20. Ill go for Mac Book Pro instead…
    Y550P is way too expensive..

  21. just buy a alienware as a gaming desktop..tas mag laptop nlng kau ng kh8 low end.. ok n un pn labas…

  22. cool. pero sa tingin ko mabibitin ka sa battery. hehehe

  23. too expensive. Although Lenovo has some nice lappys come out recently. I drooled over a friend’s Y450 which he got in S’pore.

  24. nice specs but the price is not…..

  25. Yung Core i7 na Laptop, depende sa specs yung price pero mahal talaga ang aabutin, as to buying a Macbook Pro, specs ng MBP ang layo sa sa mga Core i7 na laptop.

*P.S. I ordered a Dell Studio Xps 16 sa US, pero d pa dumadating.

  26. 95k?! I’d get a gaming desktop instead or a MacBook. Tapos yung sukli, pambili ng iPod. hehehe

  27. Good on the specs but bad on the price and screen resolution. 1366 pixels?!

It saddens me how tech moves so blazingly fast. 7 years ago, I got my first Pentium M Dell laptop for almost the same price as that. Now, it’s just a media machine. This is why the #1 rule in tech buying is: don’t ever buy the latest and greatest.

  28. okey lang yan..kasi sulit naman e..anyway matagal n ipunan 2 mga pre..he he he

  29. I’ll go for this one :)

  30. I have one of this.(Lenovo Y550P) and I’m just selling it for 27k negotiable and It’s still good as new.wala pang year saken. You can check my ad in sulit.com.ph
