Xbox 360 or XPC Gaming PC?

A client of mine asked me whether he’d opt for an XPC Gaming PC instead of an XBox 360. He doens’t have an inkling of the advantages of one over another but I brought it down to 2 basic points.

If you have the money to burn, go for the XBox 360 (if you can easily get one). You could easily shell out 50 grand for them babies. However, an XPC Gaming PC could get you by with enough fire power to play the games you like (he has a Philips 29″ TV he can hook it to) and still use it for a whole lotta other things.

Shuttle XPC

I know, I know, I’m like comparing apples and oranges here (how can you beat Xbox’s three separate core processors that clock in at 3.2 GHz each?).

Hi all, I am not a gamer but am now putting my feet into the water into pc games. My maxonline contract is expiring soon and now pondering on taking up the Xbox 360 core promo fm Starhub. But from what I’ve read in the net, lots of people are saying “stay off the core bundle cos its gonna cost you more money buying the accessories..”
One question here..is this Starhub xbox 360 promo designed to squeeze more money out of their customers by offering something less worth the taking?
Second question.. any diff between Xbox and pc games ? Fm what I’ve seen, pc game is more economic than xbox… can anyone comment??

XPCs aren’t ideal for gaming because of insufficient ventilation. most current (or last) gen parts generate a lot of heat, if not properly ventilated, your 20k video card won’t last for a year. But if you’re comparing an XBox360 and a Desktop PC, a Desktop is cheaper in the long run. It will have more powerful processors and / or video cards available in less than a year. So upgrading can lenghten your investment’s return.

Money to burn get an Xbox 360? If you have money to burn … you get an XPC. The Xbox 360 is cheap compared to a good XPC. One shouldn’t recommend something thats “good enough”. It should be great for current generation games to last any length of time.

an XBox 360 should cost about $500, 25-30k max, and you can if you want a great gaming rig, it will cost way more than that.

XPCs and other custom case/motherboard combos are on their way out. They are being replaced by really innovative MicroATX form factor cases like the N3M3S1S, Antec Aria and ASUS TM-551 (my new case). These allow the owner to swap out the mobo and other parts for new ones.

Well, Intel’s product roadmap shows they will be offering chips with 4 cores up to 8 cores :D

Anyway, I think the games matter still (and the budget too hehe).
