As expected, Apple did a refresh of their MacBook and MacBook Pro models to include the new Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors.
There’s only one model of the 17″ MacBook Pro and that one runs an Intel Core i5 2.53GHz.
Macbook Pro 17″
Intel Core i5 550M 2.53GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB SATA HDD
Intel HD Graphics
nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512 MB RAM
Price: Php117,990
For the 15-inch models, there are 3 options with Core i5 and Core i7 included:
Macbook Pro 15″
Intel Core i5 550M 2.4GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
320GB SATA HDD
Intel HD Graphics
nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 256 MB RAM
Price: Php91,990
Intel Core i5 550M 2.53GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB SATA HDD
Intel HD Graphics
nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 256 MB RAM
Price: Php101,990
Intel Core i7 620M 2.66GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB SATA HDD
Intel HD Graphics
nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512 MB RAM
Price: Php112,990
The graphics card switches between the integrated Intel HD and the nVidia GeForce GT330M depending on usage or whether it’s plugged in or running on battery.
All models promise some pretty nifty battery life ranging from 8 to 9 hours on a single charge. Price are based on Apple Philippines Online Store. The smaller 13″ MacBook wasn’t fitted with the new Core i5 or Core i7 chips. I was actually expecting they’re put in the newer Core i3 processors at the very least. Maybe on the next refresh.

Hmmm I don’t want to buy a MBP for statuses or etc. I am looking for a new environment and I don’t like using pirated OSes as others do here. Been there done that and it’s really frustrating. I just want to know it’s performance. I am trying to pursue myself in the IT field so I need this good computers I can afford of to inhance my skills and some first hand experience. I don’t want to look a social climber or an upper class but sad to say people look at you like that if you had one of these MBP nowadays. It’s like Alienware or some other stuff out there. I only see upper class men as people with there own personal cars and not with their family. And I don’t have that. I can afford mbp if I like only for doing those hard work. Mainly robbing the bank, snatching expensive watches and accesories even stealing mbp from Starbucks. So much for that but well I’m going to try this mbp someday if all people or 50% of some people with laptop will buy this brand.

naka gamit na ba kayo ng MAC? if you’ll try the apple environment you will enjoy it. it doesn’t get viruses than microsoft. mircosoft has many check, error.check disk utility…. etc bla bla unlike mac it is so simple yo use. ang apple/macbooks have their own programs like “iPhoto,GarageBand, PhotoBooth, iWork) which is more USER FRIENDLY.if you’ll visit any Power Mac,iStudio, iStore, A Shop or any mac store they have a demo of all macsbooks even iMacs so why dont you all give it a try and discover the world of apple. look at the full specs on the apple site. YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IF YOU’LL BUY A MACBOOK!
ps. i aint apple fan :P
turboman says:
I have owned both a pc and macbook pro. Kung may pera ka talaga, go for the macbook. Kung di ka naman upper class, wag na mag feeling.

Well all i can say is that im happy with my Macbook Pro 15 and with bootcamp.pwede nyo install Windows.Buy a Macbook Pro youll never regret it.ciao!

so sad the 13 inchers missed the fun… but then again, if apple did that, then they’d lose a lot of money for the mainstream demographic buyers will surely go for a powerful, cheaper, and more mobile lappy than those gargantuan 15 and 17 inchers…
appleboi says:
@Lito F.
I’m not disputing that Mac’s are expensive. I’m just saying you do get features that are not readily available from PC laptops with a Mac.
and yes, I agree some people don’t really care for the specs at all and see macs as status symbols.
Lito F. says:
To appleboi:
The truth about Macbooks price being that high is not really and merely pertaining about specs. They are priced so sky high because it is a marketing strategy Apple adopted, BRAND POSITIONING is what it is. Same with Sony Vaio brand, it isnt a Mac, but it is also an expensive brand. In fact Vaio’s specs could even be higher than Mac’s. Don’t even think that A Mac could be better than Fujitsu, but they are almost equally priced.
I owned a Mac last 2007 but sold it to an acquaintance who acts like a social climber. She didnt care what the specs are as long as its a Mac that she could afford to buy, a 2nd hand.
appleboi says:
for all the talk about apple products being expensive i have yet to hear anyone give an example of a PC notebook with similar specs to the 15 mbp for considerably less. Can anyone tell me where to find a PC laptop that has a 15″ 1440×900 or better screen, same graphics and processor as the base 15″ MBP that costs at least 10k less than the MBP avaialable in the PHil? oh and the MBP lasts at least 5 hours on a single charge too (though its not really that important a feature for me just saying)
There’s a reason why people stick with macs. show me a PC notebook with those specs that costs less and my next laptop won’t be a mac.
lolipown says:
Too bad for the 13″ model. It could really use a speed bump with an i3 processor.
manong says:
i believe the reason why apple products are so expensive because all profits are donated by steve jobs to the starving nations of africa…
NOT!
GameRumble says:
Does any of these macs have HDMI out?
myke says:
in kl the cheapest mbp with core i5 is only 80k
Victor says:
too expensive to be practical.
jd.Obedoza says:
wow. presyong kotse na ah. is it really worth it?
The Teknisyan says:
Yes, these are a little expensive compare to their counterpart.. the MSI core i7 cost P99,984 and the Acer Aspire 5942G for only Php 109,992.. based on Villman pricelist
Jay says:
yummy!
LEETO says:
you will be paying for the brand not for the unit. i would rather buy for other brands that are of equal in quality as Macs and save the extra money for other wise usage. buying MACS is already extravagance

techiewiity says:
why is that mac pc always priced so high compared to other pc brands….?
skagen says:
wooh! look at those prices! :))
vance says:
sadly, the 13″ macs are to expensive for its specs.. there are better spec windows lappies cause less but with bigger screen. you do pay for the lcd size.. secondly, the nvidia 320m is not as a good gaming vcard but again maybe they were not aiming for gaming system..
the best buy are the 15in or 17in even with the slowest one in the line, the processor itself has turbo boost which increases the speed of the processor when needed.
if you want an expensive 13 incher go with sony vaio z – core i7 with gt330m
Lito F. says:
Here in the Philippines, people use MacBooks for aesthetic purposes. It has become a “status symbol”, to picture the owner as someone who can afford, or to say he/she is rich.
Ask most of the owners of the Macbooks pertaining features and performance they like or prefer than other laptop/netbook brands, they really could not tell the difference.

So Expensive!!!
CarloBlogg Online 3.0 says:
I made a similar blog post regarding the MacBook Pro in my blog; pero dito converted na ang price to pesos. Grabe sobrang mahal tlga ng Mac! wah.
A MacBook Pro 17″ price can get you 3 or 4 laptops with decent performance(or far superior performance, depending on your needs). :D
Oh well, if you have the money and want to work/play with style, then I think a Mac is the way to go :D
Cheftonio says:
Hoping they will release an i5 or i7 13′ MBpro too.
