Since Asus expanded the Eee PC line to dozens of unit models, I didn’t see much worth on the new upgrades. The updates are either too trivial or too expensive. However, the $399 Asus Eee PC 1000HE is looking to be a worthy replacement to my MSI Wind U100.
The Eee PC 1000HE uses a newer Intel Atom CPU — the N280 which runs at 1.66GHz (667MHz FSB compared the to 533MHz of the N270) as well as an HD-capable Intel GN40 chipset for smoother video playback.
The more enticing feature is the 8700mAh battery that comes with it. Asus claims up to 9.5 hours but even if you get 7 or 8 hours in real life, that’s still way better. And it’s not one of those heavy extended version so the whole netbook still weighs on the lighter side of 3.2 lbs.
Asus also improved the keyboard to 92% standard as well as using the chiclet-type keys found on the Macbook and the Sony Vaio P. There’s a 160 HDD, WiFi 802.11n and Bluetooth included — all for a pre-order price of just $399 {via}.

those who like to have the hp 2140, it’s already available in complink, http://complink.com.ph/product_info.php?products_id=3139&osCsid=6e4b722a566479b890fb4adb2ab2c341…
i’ve decided to buy asus eee pc 1000he over hp 2140 (d p rin available d2). nbasa q nga rin sa ibang sites (nklmutan q na kung saan) na it would come with the old chipset nga raw… sad nman… bnboast sa feature na GN40 xa for the HD playback tapos bglang hndi gnun ung laman… pero panalo pa rin nman sa battery and N280 na so i’d still choose 1000he. if u’r looking for the next best thing, try nyo acer aspire one. kaso bitin ang specs nun. w8 q n lng ung 1000he hehe. and sana lng dn 2GB n lng ung RAM! hehe.
i’m looking for mini notebooks. my top picks are asus 1000he and hp mini 2140, kaso d p ata available d2? may idea ba kayo kung kelan? if not until next week, anong next best thing sa asus 1000he na available na d2?
sadly, 1000HE will still come with the old chipset

@BrianB
mabilis ba talaga uminit yung lennovo? ano ang pinaka maganda and ok na netbook?
Abe,
What do you recommend for a cheap netbook but worthwhile? I saw your post on HP 2140 but i think it is not yet on the market, or am i wrong? I probably have been in the caves too long… :D
Many thanks and i enjoy your blog!!!
cool! they finally adjusted the misplaced right-shift key to its proper position. touch-typists will surely enjoy this more. i wish they’d likewise do that with their previous models as well.
as for me, i’m contented with my 8.9″ Eee PC 900HA. love its speed, portability, generous storage capacity, and overall performance. 10″ netbooks are a bit too big for my preference.
I hope they put 2GB ram in it :)
Grrr. Just bought an Eee PC 900 two months ago. That one looks great!
By the way sir Yuga, do you have any idea when this will be released? :)
@Jay, thanks for the correction.
Wow! This just made me think about getting an MSI Wind. Me and my gf have been scouring the Metro to find the best netbook for 20k and below.
Hopefully Asus can bring this to the Philippines ASAP. hehe!
guys chipset is GN40 not GD40..

… and the accompanying chipset also gets updated, from the 945GSE to the GN40.
I’m already sold even with just 5 to 6 hours. any estimates on how much this will be in peso ?
ok nga ito. thank you asus for those improvements. medyo mabigat lang nga for a netbook at 3.2 lbs. but who can argue with the battery life na hindi extended type.
yung $399 kaya Windows na ba?
yeah.. this time i’m buying a netbook.
just imagine.. N280 with GD40 (from G45 chipset)
HD my man. HD!!
Wait, 3.2 pounds? Grabe naman. Parang 700m ko na yan.
Adrian, yung Lenovo sobrang init daw.
I hope may Linux pa. Naghahanap ako ng 9-inch na linux netbook. Gastos virus protection at bumabagal pa laptop.
woot. this netbook has made my 9 month old eee pc 900 as brittle as my gandpa.
I think mas ok yung lennovo s-series compare to asus.
Wow ~ Even 7 hours battery life is already amazing. Moreso, for a netbook.
I dunno about others but I think Asus makes the most ‘solid’ netbooks out in the market now. The build quality is just outstanding.
Thanks for the update!
