Asus has just announced the Asus Taichi — a combination of the thin-ness and form-fator of the Zenbook ultrabook and a full HD Windows 8 tablet.
Imagine the Zenbook Prime with all its glory. Add a full HD IPS display at the back of the lid which also works as a tablet.
If you flip the lid, it looks like the Zenbook Prime which we features last week. It runs the latest Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor, SSD, etc.
The back of the lid though isn’t the usual metal cover but a dark, glossy glass which powers up to show a Windows 8 home screen.
The Taichi has double-sided LED_backlit IPS/FHD display and comes in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch screens. It will be available in various 3rd generation Intel Core processors (Ivy Bridge), SSD and dual-band 802.11 b/g/n WiFi.
The Asus Taichi’s dual-screen can work simultaneously or independently of each other so two users can actually use the ultrabook and tablet at the same time. Both will have access to the same hardware but each screen can work on its own.
Asus has not indicated when the Taichi will be released but reps state that they are only waiting for Microsoft to finally launch the Windows 8 operating system before they can ship the Taichi.

Guess price is 70 to 80K?
Ahhh!! Better start saving ’cause I seriously want to try Windows 8.
Might as well experience it with Asus.
CarlBytes says:
Parang di praktikal ito parang yung Acer dual touch screen at Toshiba Libretto.
Cedric Lee says:
For a part tablet and part notebook with 2 HD displays, I’m pretty sure masakit to sa bulsa.
Elvin says:
Shakey says:
Naku mahirap to. LOL!
Romar Cabinta says:
“Both will have access to the same hardware but each screen can work on its own.”
meaning it doesn’t mean that what is on the other screen will show up on the other. :)
Jay says:
Looks promising. I wonder how the battery life will be and the weight! It looks thin but I’m guessing this will be one heavy device.
John says:
Transformer Book is much better IMO
its like the transformer prime but with the specs of the zenbook plus windows 8
Ramon says:
a laptop with a display both at the front, AND the back of the monitor/lid? O.o
Interesting… But I can’t think of a practical use at the moment XD
Probably for presentations where you control the front of the lid then the presentation is at the back? O.o?
Does the display at the back a touch screen display?
John says:
Ramon says:
Hahaha naiimagine ko naman yun XD
Pinapaconfirm ko lng since parang impractical yung design :-P
Meron kasi dati na laptop na natwitwist yung monitor so parang tablet sya (sobrang kapal nga lng). Why not use that design?
Too early to tell if it’ll be a great feature hehe I’ll wait for the reviews :-D
John says:
Ramon says:
I was referring to the last statement:
“The Taichi has double-sided LED_backlit IPS/FHD display and comes in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch screens.”
Double sided LED display? so front AND back nung lid yung screen nya?
John says:
di mo na gets?
tablet sya pag nakafold, since manipis sya, muka paring tablet.. and yes, touch screen yan.
PC naman sya pag naka labas yung keyboard.
