Asus Philippines today unveiled two new models under the Eee PC Shell line — the entry-level Eee PC 1005HA and high-end Eee PC 1008HA. The line is slimmer at the edges and was patterned after the clam shell design.
Actually, the netbook is still around 1-inch at its thickest; only that they slimmed it up around the edges and changed the matte finish with a glossy one. Still weighs over 1kg (2.42lbs).
The specs didn’t change that much –10.1″ LED-backlit (1024×600), Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD (plus 10GB Eee Storage online), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, 1.3MP webcam and MMC/SDcard reader.
Will be available in the market by June and will come in various colors — white, black, blue, pink, sapphire blue, ruby red. The over-all look and specs are very similar to the Asus S101H launched earlier.
There are initially two SKUs — the 1005HA which has the basic specs, a removable 6-cell battery that protrudes at the back and the more elegant 1008HA which has a built-in battery (not user-replaceable), a mini VGA connector tucked at the back and the ports at the sides are hidden by a sliding latch (see photos).
The Asus Eee PC Shell will have a suggested retail price of around Php22,500 (for the 1005HA model) up to Php32,950 (for the 1008HA model). Asus is also introducing Linux OS on some models along with Windows XP.

Very nice Eee PC 1008HA, 25mm thick and 1.1kg at 6hours, 2.4 Ghz Wifi N. Same keyboard as HP mini. I just bought last month in Singapore SGD 730 (Php24,600).
1008HA is better than S101H. I recommend it as best buy for now.

PC Domination says:
most netbooks have more or less the same specs, they differ only on the design..
calvin says:
@John,
this might take a fair share of s101h market. 1005HA might kill 1000HE IF it comes with the same battery as that of HE.
Darren says:
damn, why ASUS selling 1008HA somehow expensive than other areas, shit!
John Ray Cabrera says:
so you think this 1008HA model will cannibalize the S101 and the 1005HA the 1000HE market?

@Neobux – I tried installing Windows 7 on a netbook here.
@kevin – I actually downloaded 2 installers of OSX but they are all in Mac format so I could’t burn it on a DVD. Wanted to do a hackintosh on one of my netbooks.
Neobux says:
Cool! Thanks man! Always wanted to run this beauty of an OS on a netbook!
Kevin says:
Abe, ever heard hackintosh? it’s installing mac os x on a netbook. i don’t seem to see any articles that mac osx was installed in a netbook here in the philippines.
Kevin says:
@Neobux, yes you can it actually runs quite well despite the specs are kinda low. i saw a hp mini 100 installed on youtube. and also you can check your desktop/laptop if it’s compatible with win 7 without changing the driver , etc.
here’s the link for the windows 7 upgrade advisor:
