Computex: Intel’s new Ultrabook Concepts

Intel’s booth here at the Computex is full of ultrabooks in their concept stage. Some are familiar, like the Zenbook, but most others are just totally new to us.

As I talk to one of the folks that was manning the Intel booth, he explained that the ultrabooks that on display in their station are mostly concept that’s been submitted to them by ODMs and laptop manufacturers.

It means that the designs might not even end up in store shelves but mostly to illustrate the case use of each ultrabook design.

This particular one caught my attention so I ask the guy to fold it up and down for me while I record a video:

But who knows, we might still see them being polished and optimized to usable status.

So far, it looks like Intel’s bid for the ultrabook market is getting some serious traction. We’re seeing dozens of those thin and light laptops almost in all big booths here in Computex.

  1. Wow! That netbook is nice. Tablet ala netbook. But the problem here would be the hinge mechanism. It might get loose in the long run. But I like the idea. Hope to see it in stores!

I just don’t like the way you fold up the whole keyboard to the back to make it a tablet. Keys might accidentally press when holding it as a tablet.

  2. I think Ultrabook manufacturers should follow this design. The current ultrabooks look like Macbook Air and Pro. Companies might get in trouble in the future. And also I’ve tried the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. What I can say is that it’s not appropriate for a laptop without touch technology. So these upcoming devices are ideal for the Windows 8.
