Dell Inspiron Mini takes the netbook to 12″

And I thought netbook sizes will stop at 10 inches. Seems like Dell is pushing the limit to 12 inches with the new Inspiron Mini 12.

Dell announced the 12 inch display Inspiron Mini yesterday in Shanghai, China.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12

Dell Inspiron Mini 12
Intel Atom 1.6GHz
12.1″ display screen
2.72 lbs.
1.3MP webcam
60GB or 80GB HDD
1GB RAM
WiFi 802.11 b/g
3-in-1 card reader
3 USB 2.0
Windows Vista Home Basic

Price is expected to be around $999PHP 58,627INR 84,665EUR 951CNY 7,271. Isn’t that too expensive for a netbook?

At this rate, we could be seeing netbooks at 13.3″ and 14.1″ or even 15″ display screens. *heh* I guess, by now, it’s going to be the CPU that will determine if a laptop is under a netbook or notebook category. Besides, it was Intel who first coined the term and defined the form factor — Dell is just extending the definition of a netbook.

Question is — would people go for the standard laptop size that carries a slow CPU?

  1. I’d pay an extra $300 for a C2D.

  2. they say its gonna go under $600 when it hits the US, right now its only available in japan…

  3. It looks like laptop already with a 12″ screen.

  4. If I’ll buy this laptop, I’m reconsider first because as you said yuga, “would people go for the standard laptop size that carries a slow CPU?” I’ll rather buy a laptop or a second hand Dell laptop.

  5. 12″ is ok with me even with Intel Atom. i don’t really need to do resource-extensive tasks in laptops. i’d rather go for portability (thin and light).

  6. Your typical low priced 12″ weighs in at 4-4.5 lbs. It is not as light as it sounds when you have been carrying one around for a bit.

This thing comes in under 3 lbs. It is a nice low cost alternative to a Dell Latitude D430 or Lenovo X200.

  7. Question is — would people go for the standard laptop size that carries a slow CPU?

    NO way yuggie! i’d rather basket a Core2Duo / a Centrino., whatever.

    Dell’s desperate.

  8. You make a super point in Dell Inspiron Mini takes the netbook to 12? . Brought Forth some crucial data here. I suppose that if more individuals reckoned about it in that manner, they would have a better understanding of the matter. There is no smoke without fire and in that respect there are no remarks without posts.
