eMachines, one of Acer’s low-end laptop brands, is also offering one of the cheapest Core i3 based laptops around with the eMachines eMD730.
The specs are pretty basic but if you’re looking for an alternative Core i3 laptop, this model (along with the ones offered by Neo and MSI) may come as a viable option.
eMachines eMD730-332G25Mn specs:
14.1″ display @ 1366×768 pixels
Intel Core i3-330M @ 2.13GHz
2GB DDR3 RAM
250GB HDD
8x DVD Super Multi Double Layer Drive
Intel GMA HD w/ 128MB dedicated VRAM
Gigabit LAN
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
1.3MP webcam
HDMI port
3 USB 2.0 ports
4400mAh battery
Note though that it doesn’t come with Windows OS but Linux. The suggested retail price — Php29,990 (though some seller in TPC is offering it for as low as Php27,500 in cash).

Just got one of these from PC Options the other day. Had it for a measly Php 27.5k (it already had Windows 7 Home Basic 64bit pre-installed). Added another Php 1.4k to upgrade its DDR3 RAM to 4Gb. Works flawlessly. =)

@shinobi101: Premium PC is located on the first and second floors of the Gilmore Commercial Plaza (right across St. Paul, if I’m not mistaken). You’ll see a big logo of ACER– that’s where I bought it. It’s a concept store of Acer, but It’s under Premium PC. I hope I can be of help.

got mine last week! i’m sending this on a d730 and so far i’m very satisfied with the performance of this machine. tulo-laway nga kumpare ko na may vaio nga pero core2duo lang. ambilis mag open ng applications..!
Junalquis says:
wow this is great especially for those who just do practical stuff like browing and watching videos because of the Linux OS and the specs are great too.

I’m eyeing on this one, as well as Lenovo’s G450 (P24K) and Asus’ K40AE(P25K). I want a lappy that would serve my needs right (Java programming, MS Office, watching HD videos, PS CS4). I’m wondering if eMachahines can handle it. I don’t wanna make mistakes when it comes to spending my hard-earned money, as I’m still studying. Is eMachines’ quality good? Will it last for 2 years or so? Any advice given to me is highly appreciated. Thanks.
Earleen says:
will it able to handle 3d max? and vray faster?

Will this play 1080p videos flawlessly and will it be able to handle Photoshop CS5? :)

hi i got one of these , and it’s a pretty nice machine
marcpodi says:
@Jhay
Light Peak and USB 3.0 specs are both from Intel.
Doodles says:
Wow! If those are the basic specs these days, i’m sold! Better than my 2007 macbook for sure. Ok… what software goes best with this?
Paul says:
It’s a pretty nice machine, I tried one today in Festival Alabang. The pre-installed Linpus Linux is quite functional and the user interface is simple.
At 30k it’s an excellent deal for a Core i3 laptop, and since it already has Linux installed you can easily replace it with other versions of Linux (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS would just look great on this) or even Windows 7 if you like.
manaka_junpei says:
maganda uli ang Emachines, yung tatay ko may Emachines galing US with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium, kaya lang lagi hindi ginagamit sa lahat nang oras dahil kailangan pang turuan gamitin sa Stocks
Jhay says:
Well Intel better move fast with “Light Peak” because USB 3.0 is just around the corner.
fr0stbyte says:
Right now USB 3.0 is pretty much useless.. for external drives and most devices. I haven’t heard of any device that can saturate the full bandwidth of USB 3.0. Unless we’re talking about SSDs. It’s like running an old rusty car on Germany’s AutoBahn. Very high speed limits but the car just can’t go that fast. Get my drift? Intel doesn’t even have any definitive plans for adopting USB 3.0 into their chips sets because they are trying to develop “Light Peak”, a viable alternative to USB 3.0 and display technology. Just my 2 cents. I just hope everyone would just stop nagging this topic.. NEW doesn’t mean COOL.
markmarcelo0210 says:
with the specifications and its price i think its a good value for money especially for users who just do basic computing like internet.
Abe Olandres says:
@netbooksearcher – USB 3.0 ports might still be useless unless you have other devices (camera, external HDD) that also supports USB 3.0.
netbooksearcher says:
I think the specs are good enough for the price. But I’m waiting for laptops that already have USB 3.0 ports. When will these laptops (and netbooks) come out? Should I wait for USB 3.0?
