Hands on: Dell Alienware M11x

Earlier this afternoon, at the PC Showcase 2010, the Dell booth had a couple of Alienware laptops lined up for sale including the M17x, M15x and the netbook-sized M11x.

Despite the relatively small size of the M11x, it still is a huge beast once you put it side-by-side a regular netbook. It’s a bit thick as well and that could be due to the inclusion of a discreet graphics card and the need to put in some sort of exhaust fan to keep it cool.

The system seems fast but I didn’t notice any significant difference between this unit my ULV notebooks (Asus UL20, Acer Timeline 1810TZ). Tried running Windows Experience Index to see the scores but it was taking too long and people are already looking to take turns after me.

The back-lit keyboard was blinking all the time (in various colors) as if there’s some party underneath the laptop. The keyboard itself was a little shallow and typing accurately could get a while to get used to. Solid notebook all-in-all and really nice looking. There were two models in the 11-inch category — one with the Core 2 Duo ULV (complete specs here) and the other with a Core i3. The older model was selling for around Php66,000USD 1,125INR 95,344EUR 1,071CNY 8,191 and I don’t think they sold any of them today.

  1. The keyboards looks great. .

  2. I think Dell is going to add the option to upgrade the M11x to a core i7 procie… But I think the price would go to the roof… Would like to have one of these though because of the size and performance ratio…

  3. Is there a way to make the keyboard light steady, sir abe? Parang masakit sa mata kung laging nagbblink.

And how heavy is this compared to your netbooks?

  4. still an expensive alienware piece :)

  5. there is no way I will buy such an unnecessary and expensive laptop like that.

There are other laptops/netbooks less than a quarter of the price of this, that can do 95% of the jobs that this thing can do.

  6. If this had AMOLED HD display it would beef up the battery life arround 7-8 hrs or 3 hrs of gaming

  7. @lappie: i understand your predicament, but Alienware line is the luxury computer from Dell, remember that Dell also makes computers that are affordable. It’s like Toyota, they make high end cars – Lexus, and they also make low end cars. I myself can’t afford the luxury line, but that explains it. I just have to enjoy looking at them and reading about their price and specs. Peace!

  8. @jad

you can turn it off or just one color. you can customize the keyboard, on/off logo, speakers, alienware name on the lcd and the logo at the back.

    its a 2 kilos laptop.

    @arvin

it a LED backlit display and can run 720p

mine is arriving on july 7. ;)

  9. definitely almost the same with the ULV’s today with I guess has differences with the keyboard style and graphics as well..

  10. For that price tag, I’d get a MacBook instead. Or spend it on powerful gaming desktop rig instead.

  11. @Jhay

the new Macbook has nvidia 320m while m11x has nvidia 335m gt

  12. @ Jhay – Between a 1000 dollar Alienware and a 1000 dollar Macbook the Alienware wins in my opinion.

Nvidia 320m vs Nvidia 335m gt
Core 2 Duo vs Core i5

For a thousand dollars you could get the Alienware with a core i5 processor and that graphics card is great, thinking about getting one this month actually.

  13. Sigh, if only i did not have major expenses. I would get the M17x in Nebula red with an i7 processor and the biggest RAM it can accomodate.

  14. Bought mine last april for aprox 40k only..

  15. CRAP! M17X for SALE!!?? Is it customizable? I’m planning on purchasing it on Australia since it’s much cheaper there and I want to config it to a Raid 0 Performance on 2 SSDs.

  16. tama kayo nakakaduling yan ilaw. at with regards to the price nakakamatay. let us be practical. nasa paggamit ng may-ari kung tatagal ang isang bagay. kahit anong brand or mas mahal man eh kung burara naman ang may-ari, nasisira agad ang bagay.

  17. Parang para lang talaga to sa mga mahilig sa gaming, looks pretty powerful at mahal ha

  18. the alienware m11x with Intel core i7 640UM, 4GB of RAM,and 320 GB HDD is for a limited time $1099

  19. san po makakabili nyan d2sa manila??

  20. @all:
    saan po makabili nito?

  21. Alienware M11X; Play games including Crysis, Left 4 Dead 2 or Call of Duty® 4: Modern Warfare 2 with intense frames-per-second performance. great gaming laptop!!

  22. im not satisfied with the design of the dell laptops..when it comes to design, durability and quality i prefer toshiba mostly the gaming laptop of toshiba the “TOSHIBA QOSMIO”..if u want to know more about this qosmio go to www.toshiba.com

  23. hello po. is there another netbook similar to this with the same power and HD capabilities including HDMI output? I would buy this machine, but would love to know if there are other alternatives… Other netbooks just don’t seem to match the m11x power.

  24. san po makabili nito sa pinas?? at magkano ung i3

  25. san po makabili nito sa pinas?? at may po b i3?

  26. Fuck thats fat!

  27. May idea po ba kayo kung san makakabili nito na brand new sa Philippines? thanks
