A recent report from the Digitimes indicate first quarter laptop shipments for 2008Â showed HP, Dell and Acer were the top 3 laptop manufacturers with 20.8%, 15.1% and 14.6% shares respectively. That represents just over 50% of total shipments or 15.67 Millions units.
The report also states that Dell managed to recapture the top 2 spot while Apple went up a notch to #7 with 1.433 Million Macbook/Pro/Air units (a 61% increase from 1Q2007) or 4.6% market share.
On the other hand, we did a survey just over a month ago here asking readers what brand of laptop they are using. Here’s the result of the over 220 submissions sent in:
HP still definitely leading the batch at almost 1 in every 5 laptop owners. It was followed by Acer with close to 17%. An interesting runner up is Apple at #3 with 14.5% of the submissions.
Dell Philippines only officially launched a couple months back but was already popular among laptop owners (#4 at 10.81%). Likewise, Asus enjoyed a better ranking primarily because of the new Eee PC line.

I wonder how this graph would look like next year or by the end of the year? I’m sure Asus’s position will change, then again it’s too early to tell since competitors to the Eee PC have only come out.
