HP Firefly Laptop has 17″ and 4.3″ Screens

While this is not the first laptop to sport dual-screens, the HP Firefly looks odd with a secondary display screen of just 4.3 inches situated below the primary 17″ display.

This is not just an ordinary fancy laptop — it’s a 13-lbs mammoth gaming machine {via Laptop Mag}.

Powered by an Intel Core 2 Extreme 2.4GHz mobile quad-core processor, it also runs a dual Mobility Radeon HD 3870 graphics in CrossFire mode, a 250GB 7,200RPM HDD and 4GB of DDR3 memory.

The secondary 4.3-inch screen (800×480 pixels) allows you to watch other stuff while doing something else on the primary screen (maybe YouTube, iTunes or Hulu).

The trackpad, which is situated on the right side of the keyboard is also multi-touch — hoping you can play FarCry 2 with it. The webcam is also able to run at infrared mode so you can still be seen while playing games in the dark.

  1. Another great laptop but how about the battery life…I just dont want to be interrupted with no more battery juice when playing my favorite solitaire

  2. wonder if this what comes out of blending voodoo and HP

  3. @jomark osabel: It belongs in the desktop replacement class of laptops so it’s not meant to be lugged around. You’d want to have this plugged in at all times because that kind of hardware demands a lot of power. The battery could just serve as a makeshift UPS in case there’s a power outage. :D

The small screen however doesn’t look very useful. Who would want to squint in a tiny screen below the huge one? But then my eyesight isn’t that good already. Lenovo’s DS in my opinion is a better implementation of this idea.

    Disclaimer: I *heart* Lenovo’s notebooks. :P

  4. It is odd. The secondary screen is not for me.

  5. No wonder the track pad is on the right hand side, it’s a gaming rig.

But yeah, how about its battery life?

  6. I don’t know why HP adds a secondary screen to this Firefly. After all, it’s a gaming machine, right? My eyes will be too busy focusing on game on the main screen that they won’t have a chance to see what’s on the secondary one.
yuga, I love your blog. Nice work, man.

  7. @andre & jhay – there’s an external battery pack as well but I don’t think you’d want to carry this thing in your backpack.

  8. Hope that battery under the hand rest is well-protected.

  9. and well-insulated.

  10. how much is this?
