A story from PCMag reports that Intel Dual Core processor prices have been slashed by as much as 40-60%.
So I checked the local stores to see if they indeed change their list price to reflect the same.
While Villman still lists the Intel Pentium D Processor 820 (Dual Core, 2.80 GHz, 800MHz) at Php 10,499, the ones at PC Express is already down to just Php 6,900 only. The Pentium D 805 (Dual Core; 2.66 GHz, 533MHz) but on PCX it’s only Php 5,750. I’m sure Villman will follow suit and update their prices.
Even the AMD Socket 939 and the AM2 have slipped down a couple thousand pesos as well. The prices should go down a few more hundred bucks when everything rolls out and competition among retailers levels to a nice price-point. Should be a really nice time to do some upgrades next month.

Fleeb says:
Right now, I can see that an AMD AM2 3200+ is sold for only 5950 in PC Express. Thank the launch of Conroe. If they can only sell it at 3-4k, then woah!
@vance, the fastest Single core AMD64 is I think 4000+. So the 4400+ is probably an X2 running at about… hmmm I think 2.3 for each core, so I may not be sure what’s the equivalent NetBurst for that in terms of performance.
vance says:
ah i see, just saw a oced one on the net, I hink he didnt even used too much cooling, to oc it to around 4ghz.
anyways, whats the counterpart of am2 4400+ in intel?
Fleeb says:
Actually, as of this point, Intel is winning back. However, NetBursts are so power inefficient that clocking an 805 processor will be equivalent to using a heater. An overclocked 805 will only be competing with Intel’s own line of NetBursts. That’s why you need a workaround in order to overclock it. One reason why Intel doesn’t want 805 to be overclocked.
Miguel says:
It’s likely they will. The Conroe/Merom family is a new microarchitecture. AM2 is still the K8 microarch. AMD K8L is still on the drawing board.
Netburst is the microarchitecture of the Pentium 4 up until the Pentium D.
vance says:
btw has anyone hear read that Intel is going kick AMD’s a**, well thats onIntel’s point of view. It is also said that the new processor is more power saving than the AM2 and it is much cooler.. hmm this I don’t know still haven’t tried any of this..
btw whats netburst?? sorry first time to hear about it eh,
what I think i like with pentium d is the capable of ocing to 4 ghz without using expensive heatsinks and fans, btw I saw one that they used the pentium d 805 processor. anfd you only paid 6k for that.
Miguel says:
Yup, I’m determined not to give into temptation now and get a Netburst/Prescott. Cheap dual core but old inefficient tech. If I “make it,” Conroe… if I need to save, AM2!
Fleeb says:
@Vance – I think AM2 AMD is still much better than the NetBursts in general application and gaming. It is even Cheaper. At least it’s good for the lower end of the market. A single core AM2 Athlon 3200+ is only 6k+ compared to a 939 Athlon 3200+ which is about 8k+ (at least for PC Express).
Let’s wait ’til Q4 where Intel said they’ll have 4 core processors on the market (it ain’t rumors btw). This time, CPU prices will surely drop.
vance says:
well I’m still using a socket a sempron. I’m afraid to actually upgrade to a newer ones baka kasi biglang maydarating na bago..
I stand corrected about core 2 duo being priced high as I can see that the 1.8 ghz would only cost me 8k but still waiting to see the price to go down to 6k, but of course you have to buy a new board, a ddr2 mems, pci-e vgard and 400 – 500 watts of power supply.. which will cost me arms and legs even my head to afford that, maybe after I graduate then I’ll think of upgrading.
and also intel might be releasing a quadro processor by the end of the year if the rumors are correct.
Miguel says:
17K? No way. See the bottom of the Rising Sun Computers CPU price list. The AM2 (“Socket 940”) CPUs are about the same price of the 939’s they replace.
But then again… a new branded Centrino (Acer 3628AWXCi with 1.7 Ghz Pentium M) is only 40K now. Decisions, decisions.
And I really don’t need a new PC except for play. My work-assigned Dell Latitude D510 is just fine.
vance says:
has anyone seen the core 2 duo prices man its a killer (as of now ofcourse the price will drop eventually), Pentium D is still the best to go for now for budget buyers and gamers… especially if you know where to buy them, hehe..
* Core 2 Extreme X6800 – 2.93GHz – $999
* Core 2 Duo E6700 – 2.66GHz – $530
* Core 2 Duo E6600 – 2.40GHz – $316
* Core 2 Duo E6400 – 2.13GHz – $224
* Core 2 Duo E6300 – 1.86GHz – $183
Merom will be a great replacement for mobile computers… I can see it now on a apple macbook pro and macbook hehe.. and ofcourse other notebook manufacturers. question is how much?
on AMD side last i asked for the lowest AM2 processor it was still priced at 17k.
alwell says:
incase you will sell your old pc sell it to me.
jhay says:
The price drops are just obvious indicators that the new chips are coming out very soon. I also agree that the new naming scheme Intel now uses for its chips is really confusing, back then you’d only have to watch out for number after the name Pentium then consider about the clock speed when buying a new processor.
Now it’s really, really confusing!
leo says:
guess what, i’m still using my trusty old intel celeron III 500mhz compaq laptop with 128mb memory, hehehe..
Miguel says:
Intel has standardized alread for the Core 2 – a single letter followed by 4 digits.
Oops, I’m referring to the Core 2 Duo “Conroe” for desktops. “Merom” is the Core 2 Duo mobile for the Centrino 2 Duo. And DDR2-533, not DDR-533.
In short, stuff are moving so fast so it doesn’t make sense to upgrade unless you really need it!
Abe Olandres says:
@ Migs
I can’t really follow Intel procs anymore. What’s with the naming conventions anyway? Very confusing IMO. They should follow AMD and use PR ratings instead of the letters and non-descript numbering. A regular buyer wouldn’t be able to figure out which is newer or faster anymore.
Miguel says:
Villman is not overpriced. They are more expensive because they keep their own stock and do not rely on the distributor for warrant.
Intel wants to sell their Pentium D stock since the real desktop dual core, the Merom core (Core 2 Duo) is coming out. What do you get from Pentium D? Two Pres-hotts (hot Prescotts) in the same physical package. Old tech!
Me, I’m still resisting the urge. AMD Socket AM2 is basically just an upgrade of Socket 939 to DDR2, but at present only DDR-533 is available.
vance says:
villman follow suit?? when? hehe i doubt they will may be they will dropped it to 6000 pesos but not same price as most other shop it the market, they are one of those shops (eg: TCA) that overprices their products.. my own opinion. I can them much lower than what villman can offer, from pc express, pc corner, dynamic pc, etc.. ewan ko lang bakit ang taas nila mag presyo. oh well..
going back to the topic, AMD already cutoff their product prices last week, i think, by 40%. now its time for intel since they recently launched Core 2 Duo (Conroe) which will be available in foreign market by august.
