For several weeks now, I’ve been having problems with my personal dedicated server especially that PinoyTopBlogs have been tracking a growing number of Philippine blogs close to 2,000.
The existing server (AMD Athlon 64 3800 + 2GB RAM + 2x80GB HDD) I’m running my blogs on was running since January this year. Despite a lot of optimization, I guess it’s time to move on to a faster server.
So, I got myself an AMD Opteron 246 last night — that’s 2 x 2.0GHz. Hopefully, this should last me another 12 or so months, unless I’m planning to give away another round of hosting accounts for free.
Will start moving my blogs tonight, esp. PinoyTopBlogs, so that everything will resolve fine by tomorrow morning.

hi
chris says:
do you guys know where can i get a dedicated server here in phil??
Abe Olandres says:
@ Migs
Yeah, that grid server thing sounds really cool. The only problem though is that when they get some network or DC-wide problems, the entire grid goes down with it.
@ Ahmed
Yeah, interested. Sent you an email.
Abe Olandres says:
Hi Dex,
How many servers are you running and what specs? Care to share some sites you use them with?
Dexter Zafra says:
You’ll see a big performance boost with the new server. Get 2 one for web server and other one for database. I know you are using Layeredtech, and they are a provider. Mine provider is Softlayer also located in Dallas, which I think on the same building with Layeredtech. Good luck!

Yey! Good luck sa move sir yuga, sana nga stable na ulit pinoytopblogs
Shutter Box PHilippines says:
Nice new toy Abe! Good luck on the move. I hope everything goes well ;-)
AhmedF says:
evoTopsites is SQL hungry, so it needs some RAM. Contact me Abe, and I can give you an updated version of the tracker.
I’ve also almost finished a re-write for BTS (hopefully goes live in the next 48 hours) if you are interested in that.
Miguel says:
Media Temple Grid Hosting doesn’t allow multiple “accounts” in a reseller setup though. It’s for power users with multiple projects. And, it only allows LAMP or Rails projects. No root acccess.
If I had the cash, or the project, I’d still get a dedicated server.
Reminds me, I should put up a in-depth writeup soon…
noel says:
si Migs is using a grid based hosting now. Looks promising because of its scalability.
