@claire: the original Wind U100 should be within that range.
ciao!
Claire says:
How much does Wind cost nowadays? I only have around 22K, and I wonder what’s the best netbook I could afford with such a tight budget. Thanks in advance. :)

opting between MSI Wind against Asus Eeepc 1000, will depend on your taste. If you want a stylish one, go for the latter. They have the same processor N270 though MSI is slightly lighter.
PC Corner provides 6 cell battery with a max of 2.0 GB RAM and a whooping 500 GB HDD for MSI plus its keyboard way better than Asus.
though if you really want a top of the line netbook with tight budget.. take a look with the new acer ospire one 103 vs. MS wind u100.
I am really planning to buy one soon but i am torn between MSI Wind and Acer Aspire 103… they have almost the same price for 25,995.00 and 25, 590.00 against two different specs.

one thing i didn’t like about this upgrade from Acer is that PC Corner or acer philippines didn’t upgrade the graphics from Intel® GMA 950 graphics
controller to GN40 which is a better graphics performer…. i wonder why?

@yuga: Plain “erin” would do, if not can you switch the e and the u? And thanks for the hat tip. :D
@BrianB: i guess you were referring to the tom’s hardware article that SSD are either “on” or “off” while HDD only consume maximum power if the actuators powering the heads are being moved.
@rex: if im not mistaken the 3-cell variants weight slightly more than the eeepc so its between 2.4 – 3.0 lbs. i just cant remember ifthe 2.4lbs were for the 8.9″ with 3-cell model. :(
i am definitely getting the Wind, various reviews are giving it a slight advantage over the eee lineup. caveat emptor but the reviews are pretty consistent. i can’t wait for the black and the 6-cell equipped models to come to our shores. :)
note for linux users though that as of early this week it was said that the Wind wouldn’t install Ubuntu properly but OSX was successful. waiting might be good if the ubuntu netbook remix will be stable/usable by august or september as one of its goals is to be stable on netbook computers.
ciao!
Rex says:
Whoa! How heavy is this thing? And how does the Atom processor compare with other chips in terms of performance?

whoa! 320GB!
SOLD!
jhay says:
Serious competition indeed. Wonder how the local market would react? Are pinoys really loyal fans of the Asus Eee PC? :P
BrianB says:
There’s a recent finding that SSDs actually consume more power than even 7200 rpm HD drives.
