First announced by HP back in January the Pavillion DV2 series has been available locally for some time now. This ultrathin AMD NEO powered laptop can be considered a direct competitor with the Acer Timeline series with a slight advantage of a discrete graphics card.
There are two models, the one with the integrated ATI Radeon X1250 graphics (DV2-1010AU) and the one with the 512MB discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410 graphics (DV2-1003AX).

Both weigh at 1.65kg and 1.73kg (as heavy as the Acer Timeline), respectively and the DVD actually comes as an external accessory and not built into the system.
Again, my interest lies around the performance of the Athlon Neo 1.6GHz compared to say an Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz or even a Core 2 Solo 1.4GHz.
yap you’re right there, same thing’s happening to my laptop, that’s why im planning to upgrade my ram, thing is, this laptop only comes with one slot for ram card, and i cant find any ram card higher than 2gig, i hope i can find one in the Philippines soon.
i think there is now an option for an athlon neo x2 dual core. is it possible to upgrade my single core athlon neo to dual core neo?
hello there! just want to comment on hp dv2, in the hope that this will help you guys decide wether its a buy or not. I bought mine last sept. ’09 and it comes with th ff. specs: 2GB RAM, 250HD, home vista premium as OS & ext. dvd.
Aesthetically speaking, the dv2 is a headturner, from its external design to its well responsive keyboard and most worthy mentioning is its portability, thin, compact, light… perfect (well, almost)for its look I give it 9 out of 10.
On the other hand, I am very disappointed w/ the performance. Imagine, the mere start up alone, before you can practically use it, takes more than 4 min. and a 4 min. youtube video takes more than 20 min. to download. My old asus 701 netbook is even faster compared to this. So, for its performance I give it 3.5 out of 10.
Summing up…. its more of beauty and LESS BRAINS.
Ciao!
So, is it a buy or a no buy?
=)
oh nevermind, i thought i saw Intel there a few moments ago. my mistake. Ric is the WINNER! wohoo!
@Ric
Well for some reasons, i was referring to both INTEL processor here. Did I even mention Neo?! I just compared apple to apple and not apple to microsoft. geez!
makes a whole lotta sense to me!
Nice spex and it looks really cool.

@ August – it doesn’t just boil down to Ghz alone. Intel’s CULV line has lower TDP compared to the Neo. Try comparing a 2.0 Ghz AMD Turion with a 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo and the Intel would still win in the battery life department despite being clocked higher. Makes sense huh?
The DV2 is available with a 6 cell as well.
Of course, I’m sure you knew these too…
and i would rather get a lenovo Y450 with that ridiculous price!
@ Ric – that is because acer timeline only uses 1.4 Ghz processor which is a big factor in battery consumption. make sense huh? and oh, it only has 4 cell battery, so you are right there in the battery life department. how did you deduce that?!
Overpriced. Just like all of HP’s other laptops here. I know there’s no way that pricing here can compare to its US counterpart but I’m pretty sure HP could do better. I know HP has Compaq for its budget lines but they could’ve priced the DV2 close to it considering the specs.
These would get killed by the Timeline in the battery life department.
wow!! nice one HP!
its nice because of the dedicated video card!
cool looks nice
@ Victor soooo very true that! one star for victor!
Waaaayy better deal than the Sony overpriced netbooks!
