First time I ever heard of the Viliv MID was right around CES last year and never really expected it would be introduced here in the Philippines.
So it was a bit of a surprise when I was contacted by their distributor, CosmoTech, to check out their Viliv line-up.
They showed me the 7-inch Viliv X70 mobile internet device last week and was able to borrow the 5-inch model, the Viliv S5. This neat little device sits between a smartphone and a netbook and comes with all the features you’d hope for.
Specs: Viliv S5 Premium 3G
4.8″ touch screen @ 1024×600 pixels
Intel Atom Z520 1.33GHz
1GB DDR2 RAM
32GB SSD
WiFi 802.11 b/g
3G/HSPA
Bluetooth 2.0
GPS
USB, TV & VGA out
The Viliv S5 runs Windows XP out of the box and has a 30Wh battery that promises 200 hours of standby time or 6 hours of video playback.
So far, the MID performs really well and very responsive running Windows XP and the screen got haptic feedback. I still need to play around with it for some time before I can post a full review. The suggested retail price of the Viliv S5 3G is Php49,990USD 852INR 72,216EUR 811CNY 6,204 while the Viliv X70 is Php56,990USD 971INR 82,328EUR 925CNY 7,072.

Johnny Jones says:
Can it run 24×24 Farmville? lolz
Johnny Jones says:
Oh and I forgot, Dell Streak competitor.
BrianB says:
You going to do a full review?
Too expensive though. At PMP Today, we have discussed how this compares with the Mbook M1, a 5-inch mini-laptop. Would you use this instead of a netbook?
fr0stbyte says:
I saw this cheap tablet alternative named “Hott MID-500”. Distributor price runs at $92 (whoa!) though local distribution is probably questionable. It sports a 5″ touch screen, Android, USB connection, and Wifi. Awful battery life though. Five hours! Once they improve it with longer battery life and 3G then it should prove it’s worth as a cheap iPad competitor.
laptoper says:
the price is about that of a full-sized laptop and almost twice of some netbooks. tsk tsk
boowee says:
pwedeng kabitan ng keyboard or there’s a built-in?
nitecrawler says:
I Cant Viliv they cost that much.. LOL.. S70 is as expensive as Entry Level Apple Macbook
Sanctuarian06 says:
Eh bakit ka pa jan magtitiis magfarmville, kung may desktop or laptop naman. Tehehe. Pero pinaguusapan dito ang MOBILITY? Ok? Kaya siguro kamahal may basis, maliliit kaya ung chipsets na ginamit jan.
Henry says:
too expensive around $549 = P25K sa www.amazon.com
Henry says:
just ask any of your friends from states to buy that for you so that you can have big big savings
with that kind of amount you can buy the viliv s5 with 128GB solid state drive or 2 viliv s5 na
www.amazon.com

Adrian says:

Wendal says:

Lon says:

It’s nice! pero it’s expensive !! LOL
Jojo Arevalo says:
If I am not mistaken there is a V5 and V7 sold in one of the shops (actually the shop is not a computer shop but more telecom / digital instrumentation)in Festival Mall Alabang. I forgot the shop’s name but it is the one near cdrking. Both are in the 40K range.
fred says:
so expensive!! i think it would be better if the existing installed operating system in this mobile internet device is Windows 7. Windows XP is nearly obsolete ..Microsoft has changed it OS for the better in Windows 7. lol
PunkAs says:
I rather buy an Apple iPad. Around 30K lang 3G and wifi na Apple OS pa.
symbiandreamsdotcom says:
wow. caught my attention. really these devices are handsome and silly. handsome for like muscled gadget but with a high price. how about some Sony Vaio Pseries? Anyone?
Frank says:
Hm.. this would be a problem with old dudes with large glasses, and its very expensive. Might as well stick with a netbook. The only good thing about it is you can put it in your pocket, period.
Gino says:
I’ve checked the store in Festival Mall, the store no longer exist, but I’ve seen a display in Alabang Town Center, the S5 and a bigger one i think it’s X70 with 7-inch screen. Those device are cool!! I can’t imagine myself harvesting in farmville with that gadget :P ahaha
ed says:
hey, isn’t a device like this and the likes a threat to internet cafe owners like you, Mr. Yuga Tech.
mukhang ang mga gadgets na ganito ang sinasabi nilang death of PCs.
anong comment mo mr. yuga tech?
Paolo says:
Well, in my opinion, i rather get an iPad this april.
or wait for the HP Envy 15.
michel_08 says:

Kelan po lalabas yung full review? :)) TY
Gino says:
