Canon EOS 80D announced, new 24.2MP CMOS sensor and 45 AF points

The mid-range DSLR of Canon now has a new member and it packs a brand-new sensor plus an improved autofocus system that should be able to give better shooting experience.

The Canon EOS 80D is the successor to the 2 and a half-year-old 70D. With the new release comes a refresh system with a 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 6 image processor and a 45-point cross-type AF system.

Since the release of the 70D, the mid-range Canon DSLRs have been catering to the needs of videographers and content providers would be glad to know that with 80D comes an improved Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus (DAF) technology for smoother and fast autofocusing, either video or stills, and it’s compatible with the full line of Canon EF lenses. With the 80D, the still image range can get up to 16000 ISO while video range is at 12800. Although, both can set to a maximum of 25600 if desired. It can do seven frames per second of continuous shooting while video mode is now maxed at 1080/60p.

Like its predecessor, the preview is handled by the 3-inch Vari-angle touch display. There’s also built-in Wi-Fi and NFC for wireless connectivity. A new EF-S18-135mm f/ 3.5-5.6 IS USM lens is launched with the 80D as its kit lens plus a new lens hood.

The Canon EOS 80D DSLR will be available in March 2016 for $1,199 or roughly Php57,000. If you wish to avail it with the kit lens, you’ll have to shell out $1,799 and for those who just want to have the new lens, it will go on sale for $599.99.

Still no news yet regarding the launch in the Philippines. Not even the staff of Canon have the slightest idea what’s going on! Arh!

Hi Daniel, can’t wait to get my hands on the 80D but unfortunately as of now there is still no news about its launch for the Philippines market (I contacted Canon Phil). Hopefully, we won’t get left far behind…I’m dying to hold this baby! :)
