Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG) and Leica Camera AG has announced a long-term strategic partnership with an aim to reinvent smartphone photography.
According to Richard Yu, CEO of the Huawei Consumer BG, the company will collaborate with Leica to bring to the consumers “the best elements of two expert brands” by “combining innovation and design, enhancing the user experience and continuing to inspire amazing advancement in human technology through exceptional premium imaging quality.”
Oliver Kaltner, CEO of Leica Camera AG, on the other hand, said that the partnership is an opportunity “to introduce its proven optical expertise into a new product segment and to unlock exciting business areas in the field of mobile devices.” He also added that smartphones “open an important door for Leica to new target groups and fields of application.”
The partnership also includes research and development, design, co-engineering, user experience, marketing and retail distribution.
With that said, the partnership seems logical and timely as it paves way for Leica to enter the mobile imaging market. Huawei, on the other hand, can bolster its consumer offerings with the German company’s optical engineering expertise and premium brand.
