Sony lent me a couple of gears last week for my trip to Misibis Bay. Hoping that we could do some water-related activities, I picked the Sony Cybershot DSC-T900 with Marine Pack.
The Cyber-shot T900 is a slim 12-megapixel point-and-shoot camera with full touchscreen interface. It’s not really fit for any under-water shooting like the Canon D10 or the Olympus Tough 8000 but take it along with the Marine Pack and you’re all set.
Optical zoom is only 2x but this camera can do video recording at 720p resolution so I took the chance and left my dSLR at home for this one.
The Marine Pack (sold separately) is an enclosure specifically made for the Cybershot DSC T900 series. This water-proof case can do down to a depth of 40 meters or 132 feet.
You can check out the sample photos here and the HD videos here.
Here are the suggested retail price:
Sony Cyber-shot T900 : Php27,999USD 477INR 40,447EUR 454CNY 3,475
Marine Pack THH : Php10,999USD 187INR 15,889EUR 179CNY 1,365

nice camera.

Given the camera’s specs,I say it’s a bargain at the mentioned price (and “It’s a Sony”). The appearance is similar to the DSC-T9 (obviously since its a DSC-T series) that I got when it was hot off the molds years ago: 6-megapixel, no touch screen, Php33+k. Nearly lost an arm there, hehe!
Good investment though, since it still functions as good as new. It’s 6mp is totally fine since I don’t print really big pictures anyway.
If you need a reliable point-and-shoot, this is it.
kerov7 says:
one question.. panu gagamitin ang touch screen sa marine pack na yan??
Abe Olandres says:
@kerov7 – there are external latches and button on the Marine Pack which corresponds to the virtual points in the touchscreen.

the underwater casing is quite sleek compared to previous enclosure design say ikelite or something…cool. Good enough for open water recreation diving say 60ft. nice and sleek, i do hope the buttons work great as well… :) hoping to see some underwater pics from this cam i wonder if it would be comparable to a G10 with enclosure…but way to go sony for this design.

Go for the TX1 rather than T900.
Got the TX1 with 2gb memory stick 4 only £300 which is not bad.

TX5 is much cheaper and more sleek when compared to this model and the marine enclosure package. But I’ve heard underwater cameras don’t last that long as normal/regular cameras? How true is that?
