There’s this one observation that when a blog/blogger becomes famous, they usually grow thin on content. Gone are the quality posts and coasting becomes a daily blogging habit. Still, they continue to be famous and admired.
Scott of AfftoolBox thinks John Chow and Shoemoney belongs to that exclusive list. I must first admit that I read these two blogs mentioned and subscribe to their feeds because they had quality content. I didn’t add them right away. Took me weeks before finally deciding they had consistent valuable content.
The Cartoon Blog once put out a funny strip — the 2 Ways of Becoming a Popular Blogger.
Witty.
That brings me to our question — what attracts you to subscribe and read a blog?
- The person is already popular, so when he/she opened up a blog, I subscribed to it.
- The blog is popular and useful with great content.
And speaking of popular, Michael of Basapa put out a list of The Most Popular Filipino Blog Posts of 2007 and The 2007 Top Pinoy Probloggers.
I agree with the content that you just posted, some people who are almost on popularity category they tend to lessen their post maybe because they taught being popular is what it takes and don’t need to wrote up a good content I mean a content which reliable and has sense.
I agree with the other comment regarding about blogging since their opinion are similar to what I am gonna write up here. :)
Hi, I was just jumping from one blog to another then I saw this entry of yours from last year.
Hmm, being a famous blogger/blog means that besides being famous, one must have the right “tools”: Connections (friends, acquaintances, good DSL, good server…in other words, enough “physical, non-virtual resource” to maintain the site ), familiarity with the language, and the “appropriate” personality. (Ergo, I submit to a fact that internet is just another space and time where we can transfer what we have in the “real” world. This is also a question of taste.)
And of course the passion to do it.
Some bloggers just don’t get it. Some blogs just stay stagnant.
The diagram above is hilarious indeed. :P
i cant avoid to be struck by the popularity of some bloggers but it still goes down to the quality of posts they produce. if i dont find the contents interesting i wont visit the site again
I’d say both. If the blog has content I’m interested in and if I like the blogger. :)
Definitely content for me. I discontinue the feed if the blog begins to bore me.
As far as my blog goes, I don’t write unless I have some kind of news, review, inspiration, etc. So far I average four or five entries a week.
i like your blog because of its content… i like to read short but informative info.
i read blogs because of the content. for example, i read techcrunch because of the news posted there, not because of arrington.
it’s kinda confusing for happyslip though because she’s famous. i am subscribed to her blog because i want to be updated with her vlogs. she’s not the best writer in the world, but im subscribed to her.
@ Jeffrey, re “What attracted me to Yugatech.com is because Abe’s goodlooks!”
HAHAHAHAHA Appear! Ako, yung makintab na ulo.
I read your blog for tech news in the Philippine setting, I want to keep up what is hot and what is not.
What attracted me to Yugatech.com is because Abe’s goodlooks!
I want to read somebody that not everyone else is reading. OK, OK, I read a few popular bloggers like Abe, but odds are, if you’re popular, I tend not to subscribe.
Any content can be compelling. I actually don’t really understand when people that say it’s the content that makes them decide to read a blog. It’s usually something about the person writing that often causes me to subscribe.
Hi Abe,
Both ways work for me. Some people I admire, say for their leadership skills and are popular for it, when they open a blog I’m come rushing and adding them to my feeds. Sometimes, they don’t provide good contents, but I add them anyway just to keep track with what’s going on in their minds. But most of the times, they do provide great content.
I also, for most cases, read blogs simply because the content is great and appeals to my interest.
I added you in my feed a couple of months ago for the reason that you’re both popular and provide great content. :D
what if he/she blog about his/her self
I think the content matters the most but of course the blogger comes second. Syempre ang pangit naman kung snob yung writer and doesn’t accept criticisms (good or bad).
Buti nalang ok dito hehe..
First, you get attracted to a blog because of its post. Either…
> The attractive title of the post
> The interesting content of the post
Then you get glued to a blog.. visit it regularly, subscribe to it’s feeds.
The content/blog initially hooks me. Then the blogger keeps me.
It’s hard to consistently publish great content, so bloggers who can establish a certain connection with readers will be able to retain them.
Of course the great content, informative and helpful.
The thing is Yuga’s blog was popular so I dropped by. Then I stayed because of the content.
The blog attracts me :P
I don’t care if the blogger is a celebrity. If that person bores me, I wouldn’t stick around long enough to read that person’s blog. :)
I only subscribed here https://www.yugatech.com and sa own blog ko http://ww.animohosting.com syempre hehehe
i subscribe to a blog because of the content. although minsan, nagsusubscribe din ako kapag sikat ang blogger, pero after some time na makita kong walang kwenta pala sinusulat nya, i hit the unsubscribe button then. :)
I subscribe to a blog not to a blogger.
“Still, they continue to be famous and admired.”
I wonder who that is XD
great content.. i like to read blogs where i can learn a lot of stuff, not just because the author is some famous celebrity or something.
That brings me to our question — what attracts you to subscribe and read a blog?
I don’t really care if the blogger’s famous or not. It’s the quality content that matters for me.
I subscribe and read your blog because you were a famous blogger with useful content to me.
