I was invited to a roundtable discussion over at the Newsbreak office here in Ortigas this afternoon to talk about blogging strategies, site optimization, blog monetization and online advertising models.
It is good to know that news organizations like them who are just starting their online presence to incorporate a blog to augment their news content and research materials. Their interest to “do things right” from the very beginning led them to consult me on the matter.
One thing I have observed with this and my previous talks with other (print) media people is that their online presence hasn’t been given much attention. You will notice that from their design, archive structure, site optimizations and monetization efforts.
Of the lot, Inq7.net might be the only one aggresively building a solid and self-sustaining web property as they’ve dedicated an entire development team to focus on these, among others.
But what can other news site that releases an issue every two weeks do to catch up? Blog.
And that’s exactly what they’re going to do.
The battle for the last mile to more eyeballs and pageviews will be won by the one who can implement/integrate a good blogging strategy.
