What to do with PinoyBigBlogger?

I have to give it to Manolo, he basically coined popularized the term Pinoy Big Blogger last year. So I registered it right away last December and asked him what he wants to do with it. It’s still hanging there waiting for a nice idea on how to effectively use it.

A couple of ideas popped into mind:

  • Group showbiz blog. Hook up with several people from the industry and invite them to blog about the entertainment scene. I have several celeb contacts I could tap for this esp. when the Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition is very near.
  • PBB Online edition. This has been suggested earlier and seems to be the most likely candidate for the site. Implementation is hard though.
  • Ala-SlashDot (/.) for the Philippine Blogging Community (or maybe something like Global Voices). You have 1 or 2 channel editors compiling the really good reads from Filipino blogs. Aggregation with a human touch.
  • Blog Directory. Compile all information gathered from PinoyBlog and PinoyTopBlogs and you get at least around 2,500 Pinoy blogs in one massive directory. Should be community-driven as well.

Any other ideas come to mind?

Update:
Changed wording from “coined” to “popularized” (semantics). More on this on Cathcath.com while Manolo posted a clarificatory entry.

why not make it as most people would think of it, a pinoybigblogger contest.. everyone will blog for 100 days non stop, day and night, 24/7 and the last one standing wins the title of becoming the philippines first ever pinoy blogaholic.. think of the sponsorship itll get from manufacturers of those nice looking boobies mousepad..

    To all:

Thanks for the tips and suggestions.

    @ Manuel

Right after I registered the domain, I edited my Pinoy Big Blogger Experiment to point to the new domain which gave it some SEO link juice.

    @ The Ca t

At the end of my November 20 entry, I commented that the domain is available and someone should register it asap. After exactly one month, nobody still owned it so I registered it. If Retz wants to move into the new domain, I’ll give it to him free and even migrate his blog into it. :) I just don’t want the domain to go un-used and unproductive.

    Hi Cat!

I only registered the domain very late, December 21, 2005 ata, when a search PinoyBigBlogger did not show up anything. Little did I realize that Retz was already re-branding his site or himself as the Pinoy Big Blogger (blame my RSS feeds for not seeing the new theme).

The only time that I realized Retz mentioned the term was on his Dec 31st post.

    Manolo and Yugz,

Indeed, rets coined the word Pinoy Big Blogger when he used it last August in his Aug. 21 blog.

    and published in pinoyblog

on the same date at 6:14

He meant to register it at godaddy’s even before Manolo used it in November but I prevailed to wait for my cathcath.net to be registered first. When time came when he was about to register, he found that it has already been registered by yuga. .

I am adverse to the idea of some sort of blogging caste system where people like Xeni Jardin and Cory Doctorow reign supreme. but Blogebrity.com might give you a few ideas.

Whoa, number #1 in Google for the search term pinoy big blogger, even if the site only contains one “hello world” entry. How’d you do that, Abe? :-)

Retzwerx.com appears to be branding himself as “Pinoy Big Blogger”, but anyway…

Why not hold a PBBlogger contest? Gather not-that-popular Pinoy Bloggers and let them blog inside pinoybigblogger.com for the next 100 days.

“Big Blogger” can have them do certain tasks related to the web/blogging. Every couple of weeks, vote out one of the contestants. You can also get reader participation via sms txt. :-)

    What about this?
He reviews pinoy blogs without them knowing gives us the pros and cons and how to further improve the blog.

Then, there’s this weekly contest where the winner gets to have his whole blog overhauled (hopefully the winner has the worst blog design or something), credits for blogexplosion.

“Big Brother” is already too identified with showbiz to be used for other purposes. I prefer #1, and #3 with an entertainment spin.
