I’m swamped. I’m not sure if I can maintain my one-post-a-day around here anymore. Reminds me of the dreaded “hell week” back in college.
- Firefox 1.0.6 just released to fix some bugs made by 1.0.5
- I’ve been tasked to poke around with the blog for this new scholarly group called “Blogs of the Round Table”, eloquently hosted by Manolo.
- Are we really going to say goodbye to GMail? (via macalua.com).
- Gravatars are back online! (They apparently forgot to renew their domain on time. There’s a lesson here to be learned.)
- Firefox plugin AdSense Notifier 0.6 is now released and fully compatible with the latest AdSense make-over.
And then there’s one design project for a local bar and a custom WordPress theme for PinayExpat.
Been tweaking around with “my.cnf” of several very busy servers. :D mySQL optimization is kinda fun and tiring. :D
@yuga
sure, anytime… but I have to warn you that I’m a bit rusty already… hehehe
@ Migs
Thanks for the tips Migs! Will pop you in YM when I have more questions ha?
@ Hoop
Sayo rin puede magtanong about mySQL? hehehe
I posted my MySQL tuning tips for Java EE, though most of it is independent of platform.
oo nga MySQL user group, pero sana pwede sumali kahit hindi marunong nun hindi pa kasi marunong ng MySQL eh hehehe turuan nyo naman ako marunong kahit papano marunong naman ako ng MS SQL…
We should have a MySQL users group! I wasn’t a big fan of MySQL, favoring PostgreSQL, but the legacy app here at work is using it and I have to tune it to high heavens.
Are you SELECT bound? mytop will show you the select/insert/update/delete mix. If so, I think InnoDB + in-process cache tweaking is better than MyISAM + letting the OS VM system handle it.
YM me for more talk, we’re OT. hehe.
Migs,
I was getting high iowaits and suspected a wrong mix of mySQL cache for memory allocation. Probablity the high iowait is due to high usage of hdd with swap files.
At one time, I even set the max connections to 900 and turned KeepAlive off in httpd.conf.
Any more suggestions for tweaks?
Restarting? That is for tuning memory usage especially for InnoDB. If it’s CPU utilization, watch your “EXPLAIN TABLE” and create indexes.
Tweaking mySQL is almost a guessing game. Had to restart it again and again just to get the right feel for performance. I used my site as to check the results and form your feedback, looks like a hit a nice jackpot there. :D
@darksparrow
Firefox had a lot of volunteer beta-testers now so the extra help boosts their release dates.
napapadalas yata ang pag release ng update ng firefox
@yuga:
Your site is a bit snappier now. Yung MySQL server ng host ko kahapon tumigil. Akala ko na hack ako. Lahat ng sites ko down.
@yuga
Great work with mysql’s configuration file… I noticed a BIG difference sa loading ng web pages… ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM :-)
When I checked the whois information on Gravatar, it said that its status is “on-hold”… Sabi ko na nga ba.
I noticed that one. For a minute there, I thought somebody was attacking the servers of ploghost *phew* :-)
