This has long been overdue but we’ve finally moved on to a new blog design. For the past 2 and a half years, since the last reboot and move to WordPress, this blog had sported the heavily-modified Connections theme, prolly the most kick-ass opensource theme of that time.
Today, after about 7 months of sluggish progress, I present you the new YugaTech theme. This 3-column design was inspired by K2 and GlossyBlue themes.
I’ve also changed the permalink structure of the site so apologies if you’ve been getting errors from the old theme. I’m hoping to stick to this theme for a very long time so start getting used to it. I’m still fixing that { more } tag in the full feeds so those who are reading this form their feed readers, please bear with me.
As usual, this is a work in progress. Please do send some comments if you see some bugs or if previous plugins don’t seem to work now. Comments and suggestions are very much welcomed. Cheers!
YugaTech.com is the largest and longest-running technology site in the Philippines. Originally established in October 2002, the site was transformed into a full-fledged technology platform in 2005.

quezacolt says:
weee 1st comment on the new theme!!!!
btw, nice layout! =)
aczafra says:
Yey! Finally, a much needed re-design! Looks cool and gives a web 2.0ish feel to the site. I just don’t like the striped background. =)
Congrats dude!
becypher says:
congrats man. the “philippine tech news and views” is a little small though. yeah the diagonal blue stripes is too visible, just a little lighter perhaps. yay 3 columns, more widgets and plugins, more ad space.
Manuel Viloria says:
I checked your Google listing, Abe, and the old links are 301’ing to your new permalinks. :-)
I just wonder how the search engines will treat your future posts, though. In the previous theme, your post titles were enclosed in H2 tags. In this latest theme, they’re enclosed in H4 tags.
It would be interesting to see if the new theme will have an SEO impact on Yugatech.
LinkedPH says:
neato theme. i agree with aczafra, very web 2.0ish indeed.
vance says:
nice new theme… I will miss the starbucks header. hehe
Tina says:
Looks great to me. :)
koolitz says:
neat!
Major Tom says:
Wow..this theme design rocks. I wonder if it’d be available with a public version.
Em Dy says:
Better than what it used to be. Easy on the eyes.
kates says:
Pwedeng pwede sa sponsored themes.
Lloyd says:
Neato!
Eugene says:
Finally, proper permalinks! I was quite bothered by the numeric IDs you used before… quite bad in terms of SEO. :)
wites says:
nice layout pre! btw, what’s with the “read full story” even on the main post?
leo says:
uy, great theme!
Nick Nichols says:
Thanks for continuing to push toward full feeds. Looking forward to getting those back.
Site looks nice. The small font is a bear on an old man like me, though :) But with RSS I don’t really care – RSS gives me a nice, readable font regardless.
www.animomedia.com says:
I dont like the stripes . I still like the old theme you had before.
PBlogger says:
this theme is much better than the old one
Ade says:
I love the new theme!
BrianB says:
Congratulations, Yuga. I was never a fan of the old site design. This one’s nice. Reminds me of stationary.
Dexter says:
Woow .. Good new theme..
Karlo.PinoyBlogero says:
Nice theme. Though the slanted lines on both sides makes me dizzy.
marhgil says:
this one is way better than the previous one. bug? i noticed you have 2 keyword meta tags :)
noemi says:
of course you can ignore this. In my 22 inch monitor, the slanted background makes me dizzy. Pero I love the new look, the bright orange…love it so don’t mind me.
elmer says:
cool upgrade! it makes me think of updating my blog too. btw, what’s on your logo? is it a tv/radio/cell tower or a ladder? im kidding, simple is cool!
Apples says:
My first reaction was wow! I love neat themes and clean lines on layouts. I am envious! Kudos!
Joni says:
Nice! I like it. :)
forex dude says:
definitely much better than your first theme. the “barber lightpost” on the side is an eye candy, and the tiles on the comment section gives it a homie feeling.
nice. nice.
retz says:
huwaw! ganda at ang lambot!
Mindanao Bob says:
Theme looks good, except for the stripes! Hard on the eyes!
Abe Olandres says:
Thanks, everyone, for the comments! I think it was well worth the long wait.
As for the stripes, I’m looking to change that as well as the logo.
@ Manuel – yup, that was one consideration I heavily gambled on. Hope the long term effect is on the positive side.
@ Nick – I’m searching for that FB plugin to fix it. Sorry for the temporary inconvenience.
@ elmer – it’s a cell tower. hahaha!
@ wites – more tweaks pa yan men!
Jaypee says:
All I can say is, “It’s about time!” Hehe :D
Love the new theme, although I kinda think the stripe background doesn’t go well with the overall design. I dunno, maybe it’s just me. But all in all, great job Abe!
The color reminds me of your old website Redshift. :)
Marcvill says:
Wow!! I like the header the most. Nakakapanibago, shet. I’m predicting that you will eventually change the “hypnotic barber lightpost slanted stripes background”.
After staring at it for a few minutes, the hidden subliminal message finally got into me!! – Abe is the most influential blogging overlord godfather.
issai says:
kewl, the stripes are hypnotic
jhay says:
Wonderful new theme, the stripes are just perfect if you ask me.
Manuel Viloria says:
You might wish to consider adjusting your meta description tag, Abe. Since it’s blank for all your posts, your posts might appear like duplicates.
Anyway, here’s a good page on how to adjust a WordPress theme:

Abe Olandres says:
Thanks for the link. Still busy tweaking a lot of the CSS codes. There are still bugs to be fixed.
Rico says:
Must…drop…stripes! :D
Eugene says:
How about making the stripes really small. Like Friendster’s? :-)
jervis says:
i love the logo! simple but very nice
karla says:
wow! masmalinis tignan abe :)
mr nice ash says:
this is a truly nice design… i like it…
Connie says:
Sa wakaasss!!! Looks great!
Datu says:
Body text is too SMALL. Striped background is annoying especially when the container color of white hasn’t loaded yet.
Please make text at least 2 points larger.
Sasha says:
Refreshing! Stripes are a bit off (never thought of you to be the type, hehe) and I’m sort of missing the blog blurb on the header but over-all the site looks fab! I particularly like the Yugatech font. :D
Abe Olandres says:
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I’m scouting for a nice replacement background. :D
