When Infinix announced the GT 10 Pro last year, there was a lot of interest from our readers because of its unique design and gaming capabilities at an affordable price (read our review here 21). And while the phone never made it to our local shores, we’re also equally excited to learn and share with you that, its successor, the Infinix GT 20 Pro is coming this June 10 in the Philippines.
So, we managed to get an early review unit of the upcoming GT 20 Pro and wanted to share our initial impressions of this gaming phone (touted as the official tournament phone of MPL this year) as we put it through our paces for a full review soon.
First, we are glad to report that, in terms of design, a lot of the good things about the GT 10 Pro were also inherited by the GT 20 Pro. That Cyber-Mecha design with a mini-LED indicator gives the unique back cover that Cyberpunk aesthetics and now comes in more color options – Mecha Silver, Mecha Blue, and Mecha Orange.
Our review unit comes in this nice Mecha Blue color with that same back panel that features interactive and customizable LED indicator lights. We also have the maximum configuration of 12GB of RAM (+12GB MemFusion) and 256GB of internal storage which is an upgrade from its predecessor.
In terms of dimensions and weight, the GT 20 Pro is slightly slimmer, slightly taller and a hair thicker. You won’t feel the difference but we kind of like the GT 20 Pro better because of the leaner profile, resulting to a bigger display, and it feels better on the hands.
Most of the upgrades that we noticed on the Infinix GT 20 Pro are found under the hood and those are the ones that matter the most.
It now has a more powerful chipset – a Mediatek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate. This is the same chip originally used by the Xiaomi 13T last year, a mid-range flagship device, and is based on a newer and more efficient 4nm process.
It uses the same processor set as the Dimensisty 8020 of the GT 10 Pro but each of the high-performance cores have a higher clock speed – 3.1GHz for the primary ARM Cortex A78 (vs. 3.0GHz), 3.0GHz for the secondary triple-core performance ARM Cortex A78 cluster (vs. 2.6GHz) and the same 2.0GHz for the power-efficient quad-core ARM Cortex A55 cluster.
As such, we saw a huge jump in performance with the Dimensity 8200 Ultimate, as shown in our benchmark results:
That’s roughly a 25% increase in raw performance if we just have to base it on the scores alone.
That’s on top of the 50% more memory which is now at 12GB. Infinix also allocated an additional 12GB of MemFusion to improve multi-tasking capabilities.
In terms of actual, real-world performance, we have not yet completely and fully played around with the device and testing its gaming performance but we’ll share those observations in our full review coming out soon.
Another impressive feature to note is the improved display. This time around, the larger 6.78-inch LTPS AMOLED has a bigger screen-to-body ratio (91% vs. 87%), a much higher peak brightness (1300 nits vs. 900 nits), and one of the highest screen refresh rates of 144Hz (vs. 120Hz) which will be great for people who would love to play games on this device.
Infinix also incorporated a Pixelworks X5 display processor, to boost visual or display performance for highly demanding tasks such as gaming. Many other flagship devices have used the same visual processor to improve performance, such as the OPPO Find X5, the HONOR Magic5, and the iQOO Z9 Turbo.
Lastly, Infinix also updated the sensor in the primary camera. The primary camera uses a 108MP Samsung HM6 sensor. What’s great here is that it now includes optical image stabilization so video recordings will no longer be shaky and photos not out-of-focus.

So far, we are very optimistic with the Infinix GT 20 Pro. We’ll continue with our usual processes and testing for our full review to include real-world performance, battery performance, and camera quality, which will be reported in our full review.
We’re already impressed in our initial hands-on of the device and we hope to be more convinced in our final verdict.
The Infinix GT 20 Pro will be launched this June 10, 2024, with a retail price of just under Php16k.
