With all the hype surrounding the Android Jellybean update for the popular flagship Samsung Galaxy S3, a Jellybean ROM has surfaced for the ex-flagship Galaxy S2, bringing in new features and an updated UI.
The Android 4.1.2 Jellybean ROM mentioned is a “test firmware” so there are still bugs to be squashed but according to SamMobile the ROM is already stable.
Below are some enhancements in the new Jellybean update:
– Buttery Smooth Performance & Great Stability (Thanks to Project Butter)
– New TouchWiz Nature UX (Same UI as of the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II)
– Samsung’s Cloud services
– Direct Call, Smart Stay and Pop-up Play Features
– New Widgets From the Galaxy S III
– 2 Home screen modes
– New Notifications bar
– Google Now
Take note that the ROM is a PRE-RELEASE version and is not official from KIES. The official ROM would probably be released soon.
If you want to flash the ROM on your S2 you can download it at www.SamMobile.com. Take note that there’s a risk of bricking your device when flashing so please take the necessary precautions.

excellent issues altogether, you simply won
a logo new reader. What would you suggest about your post that you just made some days ago?
Any certain?
There are a lot of custom ROMs from XDA Developers and they always provide updates and fixes for these custom ROMs.
I’d love to try one of the custom roms but sadly, I’ll lose warranty. No custom rom maker will be able to fix the note from a brickbug.
I’ll keep my note 2 stock for the following reasons:
-exfat support (nobody in the xda scene wants to include exfat in their native kernel. NTFS isn’t properly bootable)
-irreversible triangle. I won’t take my chances if something happens to my note like the the previous generation suffered from.
-multitasking. Not trading custom ui for the multitasking. Cm may port the multitasking feature of the note but it’s not enough to want to lose my warranty.
-s pen. I do have a purpose of the spen and going stock will make the pen no different from your finger
My sister has the first Note and I have the Note 2. If they would release an updated UI for the S2, then Note 1 is sure to follow. My sister will be happy for the new update and probably we won’t tell the difference between the note 1 and 2.
My sister is planning to sell her note because of overheating and lag issues. This has already been sent to the Samsung center twice for mobo replacement and charging pin replacement. It seems that the problem resurfaced after a few months.
I wish Samsung could do something about the dreaded partition that plagued many Gingerbread upgraded devices. I do hope it comes with exFat support as well.
Feedback from those who tried it had favorable reviews, bringing most, if not all, features of S3 including features like Smart Stay and the 2-year 50GB free storage from Dropbox, not to mention significant battery life improvement and performance (thanks to Project Butter I guess). Workarounds for the ripple effect and rooting this ROM have already been figured out. Outcome: one would probably think twice of getting a new droid, it’s that phenomenal… and take note, this is still a pre-release ROM so I leave to your imagination the finished product in the next few weeks (or months).
Just an update, I’ve been using a deodexed version of this leaked ROM for a month now and it works perfectly. I was also able to modify the lock screen’s ripple with an ink effect (ala Note 2) and added the multi-window option (also ala Note 2 but transparent toolbar). The stock rooted kernel I have now has exFAT support, which made me sulk after settling for a 32GB class 10 microSD just a few weeks ago.
S2 is really sexier than s3..
