Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, B, A…. That’s right. Contra, one of the most popular computer game from the 80’s and 90’s will soon be available for iOS devices.
For the too young and unacquainted, Contra is a very popular Konami side-scrolling classic where you control Rambo-like characters and blast your way out of an Alien-infested island.
Developer CocoaChina/Chukong managed to acquire the license for Contra and made a “complete mobile reincarnation” of the game which will be called Contra Evolution. Take a look at the sample gameplay below:
Contra Evolution is priced at 99 cents for the iPhone and $2.99 for the iPad and will arrive in the US App Store on June 27.

kojima says:
It’s not from Konami, so yeah, i’m not gonna buy it. Konami itself knows what’s best for their games, not that random game developer.
And oh, I read the review of this game in GSMArena.com long time ago and the reviewer, a hardcore Contra fan, was deeply disappointed with this game.
kojima says:
And just to clear things up, Konami didn’t develop this game. They only published it because they let some random game dev to make it. And yes, I was disappointed that Konami let someone to lay their hands on in their most valuable franchise.
classical says:
yeah i agree. if konami made this game, this is gonna be awesome and there will be no stupid coins for sure. i find it insulting that the chinese game dev who made this game slapped the word “evolution” into my beloved contra franchise.
i’d rather have “classic graphics with solid gameplay” than this “great graphics with gameplay seriously deterred by the game dev’s greediness”.
i’ll stick in playing the NES version until konami decides to make a contra game themselves on the mobile platform.
Iyan Sommerset says:
So that’s why Apple doesn’t like emulators. They plan on selling and profiting from each classic game like the greedy bastards they are. No thanks. NES.emu ftw!
boxingfan25 says:
Will it come out for Android?
tarush says:
Actually, this game has already been released on Apple Philippine AppStore weeks ago
I was able to purchase and install the game on the first day of its availability.
The graphics is great, but the level of difficulty is not that easy that coins will be important but that will cost you in the in app purchase.
Yun ata reason bakit na pull out siya sa AppStore agad, may violation sa terms and condition with Apple’s policy.
