How to get FB Lite on your Smartphone

With the recent appearance of the much-clamored Facebook Lite on the Google Play Store, some can’t help but be disappointed over the regional lock the social media network imposed on its new app. With the right guidance, you can get that app on your smartphone too. Here’s a quick rundown on how to install the FB Lite on your Android device.

Sideloading has been a practice Android users have been doing since the beginning. This involves downloading Android apps, or APKs, and installing them into smartphones to bypass certain restrictions imposed on the Google Play Store. While we don’t tolerate sideloading actions such as installing Pro/Premium apps to the user’s benefit, this method also bears good intentions such as trying out apps and bypass country/device restrictions. Such is the Nokia Z launcher which was initially launched last year on most flagship devices, but I find it working well on a low-end device.

Here’s a way to get the Facebook Lite app on your smartphones in three simple easy steps. We highly encourage you to back up first before installing.

  1. Download the Facebook APK file here . While it may be available at other websites as well, we might never be sure. We’ve had our share of apps that had malware embedded on them, so it’s better to get the APK files from those sites you can trust. It’s also a good measure to counter-check the app size on the Google Play Store for authenticity.

  1. Prepare your phone settings. By default, your phone doesn’t allow application installations from external sources such as your phone’s memory. To enable this function, go to Settings > Security > Device Administration. Check the box beside the ‘Unknown Sources’ option.
  2. Install the app. With all the hindrances adjusted, it’s now time to add the app to your app drawer. Locate your application on your phone using your file manager and click on it to open. You will be prompted by an option to install it. Click ‘Install’, of course.

Congratulations! There you have your Facebook Lite app on your smartphone. The diet facebook app works pretty much like the regular facebook app, albeit lighter and more optimized for 2G internet speeds.

This also works with other apps too, so sideload all along. If you’ve got any comments, drop them down the comments section below.

Or you can just use Tinfoil for Facebook from the playstore. App looks very much like the native FB app but super light at less than 400KB.

This is a web-based app so it’s a bit slow but it uses less data and it has a built-in messenger function. Uninstall the other fb app and the messenger and you’ll save data, ram and power.
