Microsoft Control Panel phase out in the works

The Microsoft Control Panel phase out is in the works. This has been a long-standing feature of Windows as an operating system. The company noted that they’re doing this in favor of the modern, user-friendly Settings app.

The shift is a means for Microsoft to streamline the user experience. The company aims to provide a contemporary interface aligning with modern trends and expectations.

Microsoft, however, said that the Control Panel will still be accessible in current versions of Windows. This is for ensuring compatibility for users relying on it for settings that haven’t been migrated to the Settings app yet.

The change will allow users to customize their settings with no issues during the transitioning period. Notably though, the company’s been transparent about how it intends to move remaining Control Panel settings to the Settings app.

The Control Panel has been synonymous with the Windows operating system since its inception in 1985 with Windows 1.0. But now, we need to move forward with the Settings app.

The Settings app was introduced in 2012 with the launch of Windows 8. This was a huge year, as it changed how users interacted with system settings.

Microsoft hasn’t provided a specific timeline for when the Control Panel will be completely removed. It’s anticipated that the phase out will begin once the settings exclusive to Control Panel at the moment have been migrated.

What do you guys think of the change? Do you still prefer using the Control Panel over the Settings app? Share your thoughts about the Microsoft Control Panel phase out with us!
