Sony’s flagship smartphone, the Xperia S, got a timely update to Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS 4.0.4) this week. We just recently updated our unit to ICS via the Sony PC Companion.
There were a lot of improvements made thru this update, most of which were because of the ICS. The native music player is now the Walkman player, the camera app was also updated, introduction of new widgets and some minor UI changes.
The handset also feels a bit faster and more responsive. We’ll have to see if the battery has also improved but that will take us a few more days to find out.
You can update your Xperia S by downloading PC Companion and updating the device via your PC. You can read the full review of the Sony Xperia S here.

My battery life sucks now when I switched to ICS. The last update prior to ICS made my battery really cool (battery lasted a day – sometimes more with moderate use and data on), but now it reverted to the original battery life of half a day. :(
Warren says:
Great that we have the latest version unfortunately for me I think its a bit lagging as compared to the previous version (try swiping your messages up or down to see the difference) the keys (home, back and menu) became unresponsive as compared to the previous one there were times that you really have to press it twice or thrice sometimes even more just for it to respond. I still have to check with the battery if there were improvements because I haven’t used it with a full brightness setting and without using the battery saver.
Jam says:
Still waiting for this update. When I connected my phone, I only received a software update.
Jack says:
Sir Abe, would you know if Samsung Galaxy Note and HTC ONE X will also get ICS 4.04 in the near future?
Jolina Magdangal says:
The battery life is better, no doubt. :)

@Marcelino: My phone was listed to be upgraded but up to now, no ICS update is available via Sony PC Companion or Sony Update Service… But in other countries, the ICS upgrade is already available… So please understand my frustration when I read the above news..
SONY IS SOOOO UNFAIR…
Marcelino says:
Because Xperia S is Sony’s flagship smartphone and it was just announced last January at CES. You may check Sony’s list of smartphones to be upgraded to ICS. I think napost na yun before dito sa Yugatech.
