Top Features of Cherry Mobile’s Cherry OS

Cherry Mobile recently launched three new Flare devices – the Flare S6, Flare S6 Selfie, and the Flare S6 Plus. Along with it though, is the debut of the company’s new Android-based operating system called the Cherry OS. Let’s take it for a spin to see what it has to offer.

New interface

Cherry Mobile has been using a close-to-stock Android in their previous devices. While it’s light on the device, it already feels outdated. Cherry OS, which is already at version 2.0, brings a cleaner and modern look to their devices with colorful icons and easy to navigate interface.

It uses a combination of multiple home screens and an app drawer, meaning the installed apps are readily available on the home screen so you just need to swipe to access them. The app drawer, on the other hand, will bring out the apps in alphabetical order. It’s actually similar to the interface of the Infinix XOS Chameleon. That said, this implementation feels redundant and could be better off without that alphabetical list.

Even with a new look, the Cherry OS is still easy to navigate. In a way, it also reminds us of MIUI in terms of looks and simplicity. Pre-installed apps are present like UC Browser, Uber, Chumslive PRO, and MovieClub+, on top of the basic Google apps.

360 Security

Cherry OS now features its own security/maintenance tool called 360 Security. It has three features – boost, clean, and antivirus. Boost makes sure that your device is running in its optimum state, meaning nothing is hogging your memory and battery. This is a good tool to run before playing games.

Next is Clean which scans your storage for junk files that can be removed. And lastly, the antivirus scans your device for known malware or system vulnerabilities and offers web payment protection.

Privacy System

Privacy System, as the name suggests, allows you to create a private system within the phone where you can store files, photos, videos, audio, contacts, call logs, and messages, and keep it protected with a PIN. This is a handy tool for those who have sensitive data on their phones but don’t want them easily accessed by anyone.

Super AppLock

Super AppLock is pretty much straight-forward as it lets you lock secure apps with a pattern, gesture, or PIN. You can also import your private photos and videos here.

Avatar Master

Avatar Master lets you have two different accounts for your chat accounts like Viber, Messenger, and WhatsApp, which is a handy tool if you have different accounts for work and play.

Freezer

If you have apps that keep on running in the background even though you’re not using them, you can put them in the Freezer which suspends those apps until you use them. This can contribute to better performance and battery life.

Health Guard

Health Guard is monitors how much you use your smartphone. It can also log when in the day you use or put down the phone, and which apps you use the most. You can also schedule the time when you’re supposed to sleep and wake so it can give you a gentle reminder that it’s time to put down the phone and get some rest.

Themes, Wallpapers, and Ringtones

And that’s about it. Cherry OS definitely improves the look and feel of Cherry Mobile’s devices on the software side. The built-in security and privacy features, although already found in other Android smartphones or offered by other apps in the Play Store, will still be appreciated by users who are worried about their sensitive files.

Better do something in your budget friendly range. It totally sucks and a waste of money if you don’t properly optimized the software and the hardware.

I’m a Cherry mobile fan since Flare s3. And I’m very Android stock kind of guy. So I’m wondering if the time is movable. Any themes that can change the look of the phone. I’m considering this as a replacement for my s5.
