The HTC Sense UI is, by far, one of the best looking skin in the Android platform especially when it’s paired with an equally good-looking One X. If anything, the only thing it needs improvement on is its performance and that’s just what the new iteration allegedly brings to the table.
The Sense 4.1 is aimed at retaining the good stuff and eliminating the bad and unnecessary. This resulted to a smoother and faster UI deserving for the sleek One X. Here’s what the folks from xda-developers.com have uncovered in the latest version.
1. Live wallpaper lag has been fixed
2. There’s a dedicated button in the Camera app to switch between Front/Backward facing cameras. (earlier you’d have to go into the menu for that.)
3. A dedicated button to switch tabs in the browser. (You’d have to go into the menu for that, too)
4. Complete removal of all 3D-Effects in the launcher leading to a completely lag-free experience.
5. Probably the most important – Rebased on Android 4.0.4
6. Added ability to remap the recent apps button / Long-press recent apps / Long-press Home as Menu. (yes, it removes the Virtual menu bar) under Settings->Display, Gestures and Buttons
7. New, blazing fast kernel. We mean it. It scored a pretty impressive 59oo+ in Quadrant benchmark (compared to 5100+ on Sense 4)
8. Wifi-dropping/ Icon showing weak signal Fixes.
9. Better Battery life- 5 Hour+ Screen-on time as compared to a measly 3 Hour+ on Sense 4.
If you own an international version of HTC One X and know a thing or two about tinkering with your OS you can already install the Sense UI 4.1 along with a stable version of custom Android 4.0.4 ROM. You can find the information on how to do it, as well as the download link here.

I hope this will also be available for the other One series smartphones :) (One V in particular)

Yeah! Just flash ARHD 8.1.0 on my One X and it feels better than ever!
I feel like they polished Sense in 4.1 and readying themselves up with Jelly Bean and Sense 4.5.
Anyway, back to Sense 4.1, I feel like the battery lasts longer and Live Wallpapers don’t lag anymore!
Regarding the post, 3D effects of the Rosie launcher is still there though. And about the camera thingy, I think that it depends on the rom because they say it was leaked from Sense 4.5.
Oh! And you forgot the Extended Quick Settings that you can access via the Notification pulldown.
Overall, we got lots of new features and an optimised Sense. Thank you HTC for answering us! Can’t wait for Jelly Bean!

I’m using an HTC Sensation right now, and honestly, I think this will be my last HTC phone I will ever own. Quality aside, HTC phones are very well built. In fact, I know the HTC One can withstand a lot of damage. What really sucks about HTC is that… DO NOT expect any Android OS upgrades once you purchase your phone. Unlike Asus or Samsung, though you’d have to wait a few months, at least their OS upgrades still arrive. For HTC (and I guess for other Android brands as well), you’d have to install a custom ROM from xda-developers by yourself. I (and I see Monchee did it as well for his One X) did this on my Sensation (upgraded Gingerbread to ICS), but it’s just sad that I’d have to resort to this when Samsung and Asus offers their OS upgrades conveniently via OTA. Parang when you buy an HTC phone, they just leave you high and dry at wala na silang paki sayo. At least that’s how I feel.
