After a week of playing with Google and HTC's new Android phone, I can say that there's a huge promise with the platform. We've seen a lot of phones coming out of HTC but the HTC Dream is a really odd one. T-Mobile today unveiled the G1, the HTC Dream phone based on the Google Android platform. It's basically an HTC phone so T-Mobile's $179 + 2 year contract price may hint of a possible unlock price when it goes global. Google's Android OS will see its first commercial debut with the HTC Dream, in an effort to bring the open mobile OS to the general public. As for the device, HTC is known for doing really high-end devices with over the top prices so we can't really say that this model is targeted to the masses. Then again, if the HTC Touch Diamond sold out 1 million units (price tag: Php42,000) in about 6 months, the HTC Dream has a good chance to match that number on its first year. This evening, HTC launched 3 new phones -- the HTC Viva, HTC Touch 3G and highly anticipated HTC Touch HD.
