As of May 2022, the NTC stated that telecom companies could potentially implement "voluntary" SIM card registrations while waiting for the mandatory law to take effect. However, the NTC also noted that making it a requirement upon purchase could be a legal issue challenged by consumers. President Duterte had vetoed the SIM Card Registration Act in February 2022.

In December 2021, DITO Telecommunity announced plans to roll out its broadband internet services in early 2022. The company stated its intention to become a full-service telco, providing all the services currently offered by Globe and Smart, once its network build was complete.

In 2016, Senate Bill No. 3208 was filed by Senator Bam Aquino seeking to impose heavier penalties on telcos violating NTC rules. The bill proposed fines ranging from ₱300,000 to ₱5 million for every single day, per violation of any NTC certificate, authority, resolution, or regulation.
