Starlink Internet Services Philippines, Inc. has just received its Certificate of Registration as a Value-Added Service (VAS) Provider from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), one of the requirements the company needs to operate in the country and provide internet services.
It is mentioned in the certificate that Starlink shall be allowed access and use of associated spectrum solely for purposes of providing internet services, subject to the availability of frequency.
Starlink shall also have direct access to its partner DICT-accredited Satellite Service Provider or Operator (SSPO) and shall build and operate broadband facilities to offer internet services subject to existing laws.
In a report by ABS-CBN, SpaceX, through its legal counsel Atty. Bien Marquez of Quisumbing Torres law firm, thanked the NTC for issuing Starlink’s VAS license 30 minutes after it has submitted its application.
This shows the government’s seriousness in addressing the connectivity needs of our countrymen in unserved and underserved areas. This will also prepare us in the event of natural disasters and calamities,” said Marquez.
On the other hand, the NTC said that the swift processing of its registration was meant to expedite the service’s immediate roll-out.
