DITO Mobile FLEXPlans: Postpaid Plans need not be expensive and complicated

In the last 5 years, there’s an average of about 5 million postpaid subscribers in the Philippines. Actually, this number has been fluctuating with a high of 5.33M pre-pandemic and a low of 4.67M during the pandemic, most probably due to the economic burden brought about by the lockdown.

Since work-from-home and hybrid setup has become the norm in the last three years, the demand for postpaid subscriptions took a back seat compared to broadband services.

For a lot of people, getting a mobile postpaid plan might seem intimidating, especially if one is starting at a new job or has to align budget priorities.

Many of the postpaid plans out there will lock you in for at least 24 months, some for as long as 36 months when you get it with a handset.

Likewise, most other postpaid plans out there are quite expensive. Expect to fork out Php2,000 to Php3,000 in order to get options to pick high-end devices along with your plan.

Then, there’s the hassle of documentary requirements, long lines in Business Centers at the malls, and getting approved.

With Mobile Number Portability (MNP), it is also very easy to convert a long-time postpaid number to prepaid within the same or across carriers if the burden of committing to a postpaid plan entails all that.

DITO is trying to change all that by offering simple, premium, and yet affordable plans, with shorter terms of just 6 months to 24 months.

What DITO is doing is covering all its bases by providing a wide variety of benefits and offering to cater to the most number of would-be subscribers:

  • Automatic SIM registration when you sign up, and you can even customize your new number to your liking.
  • If you’re coming from a prepaid number or other postpaid subscription, you can keep your existing number with Mobile Number Portability.
  • Unlimited calls and texts to all networks.

Huge data allocation – goes up to 150GB for Plan 1688 (SIM-Only) and unused data can be rolled over to the next month. Plus, you can top up anytime or boost your plan with additional credits.

  • Discounts of up to 40% when you pay in advance.
  • Earn DITO Rewards each time you pay your bills.
  • There are quite a few more, actually, and you can explore all other offers via the DITO app, manage your account, or sign up for a new account.
  • You also get a Prime Video subscription for the first 12 months and that’s included for free.

We’ve been using a DITO Postpaid Plan for about a month now, and it comes with a handset (Samsung Galaxy S23). The data allocations are very generous and we also get additional bonus data when connected via the DITO 5G network.

The basic offerings for the subscription plans are simple and straightforward – unlimited calls, unlimited text and huge buckets of data allocation.

You can start off with Samsung phones that you can get for free with a new postpaid handset plan — like the Samsung Galaxy A05, which is free at Plan 588, or pay only Php1,820 for the Galaxy A23 at Plan 1688.

If you’re looking for the latest Samsung phones, check out the Galaxy Z Flip4 on Plan 1688 for only Php31,800 or the Galaxy S23, which is the one that we got here, for only Php39,820 on Plan 1688. You also get unlimited calls and text to all networks and 40GB of data per month. Since our Galaxy S23 is also 5G capable, we also get a bonus 20GB of 5G data for free. You also get unlimited calls and text to all networks, generous data allocation and bonus 5G data for some plans!

If you have an existing phone and just want to get a SIM-only plan, you can get as much as 100GB monthly data plus 50GB 5G data on Plan 1688.

That is perhaps the biggest data allocation you can get on any postpaid plan out there. Unless you’re constantly using your phone as a mobile hotspot for your work laptop, it’s pretty hard to consume all that data every month.

Here’s a walkthrough on how to apply for a DITO Mobile Postpaid Plan:

1.) Download the DITO app in the Apple iTunes Store, Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery and install.

2.) Register for an account.

3.) Shop for a plan – you can pick between a SIM-only plan or Handset plan.

4.) Review the summary of your handset plan and if everything is all good, go ahead and proceed.

5.) The DITO App will also ask you for your location to check if your area has network coverage.

6.) Next step is for you to provide a government ID, proof of billing and some financial documents, like a credit card statement.

Once everything is submitted, we simply wait for confirmation and you’re all set.

Of course, you can also get your DITO Mobile Postpaid FLEXPlan by visiting any of the DITO Experience Stores or Device Retail Partner Stores like Rull’s, Memo Express, Tech 101 nationwide.

So, what if you’re not still fully decided to get a DITO Postpaid plan? Here’s our suggestion:

Sign up for a SIM-only plan, say the Php588 a month. Try it out in your location to see if you have good reception or 5G signal. Try out the add-ons and top-ups to see if the data allocation is more than enough for you.

After 6 months, your subscription commitment is completed. If it doesn’t work out as you expected, that’s it. But, if your experience is great, go ahead and upgrade to the Handset Plan and pick your favorite Samsung smartphone in their line-up.

Getting a new mobile postpaid plan need not be complicated and expensive. DITO is addressing that pain point in an effort to provide Filipino consumers with better options and flexibility when it comes to choosing a suitable mobile subscription.
