Last May 9, Globe Telecom suffered a temporary network outage that affected subscribers in the Visayas and Mindanao region {see full story here}.
This evening, Globe sent out SMS to its subscribers informing them of this rebate. This text message was sent to a TM number:
Bilang isang mahalagang customer, bibigyan kayo ng TM ng FREE texts sa matatanggap ninyo sa mga susunod na araw. Ito ang aming paraan ng pasasalamat sa patuloy ninyong pagtangkilik sa kabila ng May 9 service interruption. Magpapadala ang TM sa inyo ng text no later than May 17 kapag ang special service na ito ay maaari nang gamitin. Ito ang aming paraan ng pagpapakita na kayo ay importante sa amin.
Globe also posted in their corporate blog about the incident:
Globe Telecom is giving free call, text or mobile browsing services to customers affected during the service disruption last May 9, 2011. Customers can expect to receive an SMS from Globe to avail of the service no later than May 17, 2011.
Globe Telecom has fully restored mobile and broadband services in the affected areas in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
Globe earlier announced that a significant portion of its 2011 capital expenditure (CAPEX) of US$ 500 million will be allocated on investments to expand coverage and improve quality and capacity of its network infrastructure throughout the country. Globe has likewise ensured that its network has increased redundancy and resiliency to better serve its customers.
Globe assures its subscribers that the service disruption was an isolated case which involved multiple fiber cuts. Initial findings indicate that one of the causes was weather-related.
No word as to how the postpaid subscribers will be compensated but I guess a deduction tot he monthly bill should be the most logical move.
This is a great move by Globe despite the disastrous incident and the CSR nightmare that followed it.

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first commemt (it was extremely long) so I
guess I’ll just sum itt up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any helpful hints for beginner blog
writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.

I already received it! Here’s the message I received:
“You have just received your special service: FREE 50 texts plus 5 minutes of calls to Globe/TM, good for 1 day. To check, text GHREW to 8888. Thank you for staying with Globe.”

I didn’t receive any text messages from Globe Telecommunications. My prepaid credits are being taken away by them without prior notice. When I’m checking my balance, it says that I don’t have enough load to complete the transaction. What’s with you guys?
Faith@ahead says:
yeah! at least Globe was aware of the damage caused and is willing to make up for it…
chinitoguy says:
That’s what I like with Globe. They have the best customer service among Philippine telcos. Whenever I transact with Globe whether product concerns, service modifications, etc they are always nice, polite, and handles the situation with professionalism.
arj says:
that’s nice to globe. may compensation. yung iba meron ba? halos nationwide ang ginawa nilang temperamental sa signal, magbibigay ng notice na ng load e wala naman. parang sabotahe lang.

I posted in my posterous the text message I received from Globe yesterday at around 1pm. (Prepaid Subscriber)

VisMin lang? wala rin kaming Internet dito sa Bulacan nung time na yun, bakit ganun? does it mean we should we make our move to request for a rebate instead?
para namang resto ito, kung hindi ka humingi ng tubig, di ka bibigyan :/

I’m a postpaid subscriber, got a text from Globe informing be that I will be given “FREE mobile browsing” by May 17.
Great move, I think, although I would have appreciated just as well constant updates from their Twitter account, not just profuse apologies.
Calvin says:
ako same with tristan although on my postpaid line. i’ll get free mobile internet daw. sana bawas na lang sa next month’s bill. hehehe.
Micco Jay Bugtai says:
patinuin lang nila ang wireless broadband service nila i’ll be really really glad na.
i’ve been experiencing frequent connection problems with Globe Tattoo and it’s pissing me off big time..
dapat sa Internet services nila i-concentrate ang improvements nila..

That was a first, I think phone companies should focus on quality and word of mouth will just follow.
jun says:
buti pa ang globe may gantong advisory samantalang ang smart last week nag loloko wala man lang pasabi kakainin ang load hindi makatx or call even may load! wtf naman smart e.. unsatisfied customer here at for sure madami pang iba jan!
Tristan says:
I also receive the text message in my Globe MyFi Postpaid plan. Here’s what they said:
“As a valued customer, Globe is sending you FREE mobile browsing within the next few days. This is our way of saying “thank you” for being with Globe and our way of making up for the May 9 service interruption. Globe will send you a text no later than May 17 as soon as this special service is available for your use. This is to show that you are truly important to us.”
I also wonder how will they compensate us, postpaid subscibers.
e30ernest says:
I wonder how they will compensate people like me who are already paying a monthly flat rate for unlimited browsing.
David Z says:
They’ll only compensate for this latest mobile phone service outage.
idiothunter says:
Your comment doesn’t make any sense at all. Obviously, @e30ernest is a postpaid subscriber that doesn’t need free unlimited browsing. Sheesh!
sylv3rblade says:
Got the same message. Too bad I only get good mobile internet coverage in the city :/
