Was just talking to Globe Telecom’s head of corporate communications, and after showing her the iPad, she told me that Globe’s micro-SIM is already here.
I expected that Globe would eventually introduce the micro-SIM here but not this soon. The Apple iPad 3G uses a micro-SIM instead of the regular-sized SIM.
Here’s a good comparison between the mini-SIM and the micro-SIM:
Then, I realized — Apple iPhone 4G will be announced on June 7 and the phone will also be using the micro-SIM (based on Gizmodo’s dis-assembled 4G unit).
Now it makes sense. I asked for details and was told it will be available in stores and will be priced just like the regular Globe SIM cards.

Globe is promoting the microsim in a lousy way!
I visited 5 Globe centers last week, and they all had no idea what the microsim I was talking about. Their branch in Glorietta even did not about it.
Then in Greenbelt, they say they ‘heard’ about it but only to be made available on unlimited plan.
What’s annoying is that Globe advertised early last month that microsim is available in both postpaid and prepaid, but no Globe center had any idea that prepaid was advertised in major newspapers as early as June 12th.
Is Globe screwing us? Or just lousy marketing?
dante says:
I have the micro sim cutter, all u do is insert ur regular sim to the cutter click it it will cut it for u at the right size, is like a stappler hehe..
Mike says:
As far as i know the best deal for microsim adapter is at http://www.microsim2sim.com They offer a great adapter that allows you to use your microSIM with other devices as well as a microsim cutter sticker. Best offer on the market so far and to top it up they offer free delivery! Ordered another set as a present for my brother.
Efren Sy says:
@ivan – you need an unlocked iPhone 4thgen, then u can use any network provider micro sim.
@Bradley – their is an easier way to have a microsim for ur iphone or ipad. we’ve tested it. no more money required.
@Timo – please watch the Movie BOURNE SUPREMACY, if you could get a hold of the device Matt Damon used to clone the Sim Card of the airport official, then their is a way for your request to work. It’s called cloning. its also illegal from the days of the analog phones. it’s not possible. Neither of the 3 networks will allow it.
@Fred – cool lang bro. iPhone is a revolutionary device. android phones are the closes competitor to it. as far as I am aware. Nokia only leads them in sales and functionality. remember not all people can buy an iPhone here in the Philippines.
** We are currently using the iPad 3G model. We use Smart Sim and cut it down to microsim size with the at&t microsim included in the device. After setting up the 3G activation and filling up apn settings the 3G works great. Faster in some areas and slower in some., but the good thing it works. We chose Smart because I already own a postpaid and prepaid Globe Sims the 3G service is so bad in all areas. For Sun Cellular we have yet to test this, I am still looking for the APN settings for the Sun network.
Theory: Having tested the Prepaid Sim from Smart working smoothly with the Apple device. It is safe to say that their SmartBro prepaid or postpaid will also work flawlessly with the iPad 3G. same configuration as the Buddy Sim.
Timo says:
Does globe allow me to duplicate my sim so i can share the broadband services of my post paid plan? I don’t want to get another sim card and my line already has unlimited surfing. If they do can someone please tell me who i can talk to? the customer service apparently don’t know anything. Thanks!
ivan says:
sir.. can i have a question..
can iphone4 can support a normal globe micro sim? i mean .. kahit hinde na mag plan?
Bradley says:
Guys, there is a way to use microSIM card in every mobile phone, and not only in the Iphone 4 or Ipad! I heard there is a thing called micro sim adapter. Basically, you put your microSIM card inside it and use it in any phone. I googlesearched it and found it here: http://www.gomicrosim.com They say it costs 4.5 EUR. They also seem to offer the sticker guide to cut the regular simcard into the microsim. IMHO their price and quality is the best so
far.

nobody beats the iPhone many phones already come out and all of them compare to iPhone and still nobody defeats the iPhone… NOKIA? your comparing a trashphone… no one can beat iPhone because of the APPS… iPhone user here… and i love the apps… no one can beat…NOKIA=a smartphone or a trashphone
BOBO says:
iPhone 4 is here using micro-SIM and the rest of its spec is nothing new. I salute Globe for adapting this tech thus its a monopolygous move. And say, lets assume Smart will do the move also, the question is, for what? 99 percent of the phone marketed uses regular sim. That 1 percent is for iPhone 4 and iPad. It doesnt really affect the market now that N8 is coming. N8 beats iPhone 4 with no 2nd question.

The microsim for the iPad here in the UAE was made available to the public last month. There’s even an option to get a duplicate sim (sharing the same plan/data package) to be used for the other 3g devices.

Teknisyan says:
looks like Globe is getting ready for the coming of the 4th Gen of iphones which appears to catapult Apple among phone manufacturers. That still remains to be seen, since Android has found alot of allies in terms of hardware manufacturers.
The latest of these ally is acer…

Deantastic says:
If it weren’t for the iPhone 4G, Globe probably wouldn’t be making micro-SIMs. Most no one uses them. Looks like the iPhone 4.0 will probably change that. Wouldn’t be surprised if Globe gets iPad 3G exclusivity, too.

@kim – if you’re on post-paid it’s should be easy to transfer to a micro-SIM. Prepaid users have no luck though.
@wha, @markmarcelo0210 – yes, just use a mico-SIM adaptor. It’s like a microSD to SD card adaptor.
@kvn – yes!
@m – the move is actually to prepare for the iPhone 4G.

poche says:
yeah just cut or trim your existing simcard its so easy.
jangelo says:
You can actually trim regular SIM cards into micro-SIM size. I remember doing this about 8 years ago when those mini “dual-SIM” card holders were available for sale in telco shops. I just cut 2 regular sized mini SIMs, insert them in the holder, and I can switch back and forth from one number to another.
Andre Marcelo-Tanner says:
Just cut your old sim, the chip is the same
chowchowcute says:
at last a local telecom company has made the move for the micro-sim
I hope that doubters that the iPad 3G won’t work here in the Philippines will already stop
arnold says:
Yup, if Globe wants to get iPhone 4G, they better prepare their micro-SIM soon. That micro-SIM would also run on the iPad.
For those who are asking, the micro-SIM can’t be use on a regular phone unless you have a micro-SIM adaptor.
whaâ„¢ says:
can i used it in nokia 5530 sir yuga??
markmarcelo0210 says:
what’s the difference? Can other phones use the micro sim?

I saw an article that they just cut the ordinary sim to make a micro sim
