Over the course of 4 months since umobile announced their free, ad-supported service, there hasn’t been much news/development going on. Question is — are people actively using their umobile numbers? How’s your umobile service so far?
I haven’t been using mine in months. I really wanted to use it as my new public number. I even had it printed on 300 of those expensive Moo cards, hoping the dust will settle on the inter-connectivity problems with Sun & Globe.
So I’d like to hear from those who received their umobile SIM what they think of the service so far?
Just curious on how this ad-supported mobile service is picking up so far. The concept revolves around targeted SMS advertising so it would be interesting to learn if people are buying into it.

What a relief to locate a blog post that’s finally really worth reading through! I’ve been seeking about about this topic yet folks just set trash posts, or small unreadable posts. I have viewed a couple vids on youtube but it is now the same as reading through a good article. Great job! Sorry for my crooked english.

umobile was great as a second line, but not as your primary.
I had unlimited calling to any network for almost two months… and I was calling the US, Singapore, Dubai and Belgium for free… hehehe. (major network screw-up)
so, it was good while it lasted but then again, it can’t send messages to Globe or Sun. but I didn’t care then, I could always call anyone anytime. :)
P. A. says:
Q: Are you actively using the number?
A: Yes. Unfortunately my signal has been cut off this week and I have been unable to place or send calls or text messages since October.
Q: How much free load are you getting and do you top it up yourself (via autoload or something)?
A: For the first 3 months I only relied on the free load P100. However last month I tried loading online, I was billed but did not get the load.
Q: Do you still have problems calling or sending SMS to other networks?
A: When it was working connection was limited to Smart and PLDT. I was unable to use it to connect to anyone from Sun or Globe.
Q: How much ads have you received so far and are you okay with these SMS ads?
A: None.
Q: How many people you know uses umobile too? How many people in your address book has the cell number prefix 0999?
A: 1 or 2 which were all referrals.

I actively used mine for the 3G service. Seems like they haven’t worked out their charging scheme so 3G access was free (didnt notice any debits when I accessed their 3G networks) and fast.
kath says:

I lost my uMobile SIM card, huhuhu…
dre says:
I’m on Globe, so I only use umobile to call my friend (on Smart) whenever I get free load. That’s pretty much it. I liked the fact that my number wouldn’t register on the phone of the person I was calling. But aside from that, the sim card stagnates.
Incidentally, the website doesn’t seem to have developed much, either.
JC John SESE-Cuneta says:
1) Are you actively using the number?
A: Yes.
2) How much free load are you getting and do you top it up yourself (via autoload or something)?
A: 100 per month. No, I’m not yet loading it.
3) Do you still have problems calling or sending SMS to other networks?
A: Yes. Actually, it has gotten worst. Calling Globe Phones still works but they will not be able to hear you anymore.
4) How much ads have you received so far and are you okay with these SMS ads?
A: I’m not getting any ADs at all, I thought they still haven’t started with the ADs push. I can receive MMS pretty fine.
5) How many people you know uses umobile too?
A: 10 to 20, those I personally know
6) How many people in your address book has the cell number prefix 0999?
A: Same as #5.
