Sen. Aquino files bill to fine erring Telcos up to Php5M everyday

More hope for a better internet? A new bill filed in the Senate by Senator Bam Aquino seeks to bring teeth against erring telcos by imposing penalty amounts of up to five million Pesos for each single day they violate the National Telecommunications Commission’s rules and regulations.

Senate Bill no. 3208 seeks to “empower the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) by increasing the penalties and fines for violations against the authority of the NTC and its released certificates, orders, decisions, resolutions, or regulations,” according to the summary posted on the source. With heavier penalties, the NTC will have more teeth to impose its rules and can expect greater compliance from Internet providers to standards and regulations that have been set to advance Internet quality in the Philippines.

With this bill, Sen. Aquino aims erring telecom firms to be fined between P300,000 to P5 million for every single day, per violation of any certificate,  authority, resolution and/or regulation of the NTC. “With heavier penalties, NTC can expect greater compliance from Internet providers to standards and regulations that have been set to advance Internet quality in the Philippines,” Sen. Bam said.

  7. Duhh says:

    5Million x 365 days= 1.8Billion

Globe: 113 Billion earnings – 1.8 Billion = i can live with that.

    • Duduhhhhhhhhhh says:

      That’s revenue.

According to the Yuga article, Globe made 15.1 Billion in core profits.

Losing 1.8 Billion against 15 Billion profit is a massive hit.

Heck even if your profit is 200Billion, 1.8Billion is still 1.8Billion.

Why lose billlions when you can just “abide” by the rules while finding loopholes.

  8. knowilsCom says:

Good move to.. Sana maipasa agad

  9. james-san says:

What’s the use of this if anyone wealthy enough can bribe any constitution officials? For all we know, these ntc officials might getting paid for keeping their mouth shut and to not do what they’re supposed to do.

  10. Nikolai Almelor says:

Puro reklamo kayo buti nga nagfile.

    • JessPH says:

Congress will resume after the elections and end before June 30.

  13. Silvernaut says:

With the congress to be refreshed soon whats the use of filing it now?! Ilang months na lang election na. And ilang years na ba siya sa senate at bakit ngayon lang niya naisipan yan?! Dahil election na kaya ganun?! Hindi nga siya tatakbo this election pero may manok ang LP for president. For the sake of Roxas’ votes.

    • KIMIKO says:

Kuya, wag masyadong tanga. Sen. Bam has been filing bills and conducting hearings re: Internet in the Philippines way back 2014. Magbasa ka, wag puro facebook. Hirap sa inyo puro kayo reklamo. Remember the hearing he conducted in 2014 that the other senators snubbed? And if this becomes a law, this will certainly be a huge first step. With the help of matitinong officials that will enforce this, of course.

    • Cake my day says:

Oo nga. Ibasura na lang yan Bill na yan, si Roxas lang makikinabang dyan. Ayon sa bubuwit ko nung manalo si Bam gawa na yang Bill na yan. Hinintay niya lang talaga tong eleksyon para i-file yan para manalo si Roxas.

Si Binay na lang iboto natin. May cake pa mga senior citizen na magulang natin!

  14. John Nieurzyla says:

As if they will ever get charged, hahaha what a joke.

  15. nue says:

    • JessPH says:

He’s not running for any position this election.

    • putongpanis says:

Uhm..

  16. J.P. Reyes says:

dagdag sa “list of bills filed” sa bio niya, so mag mukha siyang vanguard ng modern era.. ok sana bam, too late. natira na kami sa puwet ng mga ISP.

    • Bill Lewinsky says:

HAHAHAHAHA

      Basura niyo na Bills niyo!

  17. Ronaldq says:

    DO IT! :)

  18. Troy Zarate De Leon says:

with this congress virtually ending, what use is this bill right now?

    • C says:

It can still be filed, as long as the three reading rule as provided for in article VII of the Constitution is applied then nothing is to be worried about.
