Looks like Smart Bro has upgraded the bandwidth allocation of their Plug-It broadband sticks and now offers up to 5Mbps.
I’ve been hearing about the upgrades for some time now but since the Smart website did not reflect the changes, we had to wait for the official release.
The update has just been posted recently, showing this table.
The Power Plug-It is now up to 5Mbps (postpaid). The Starter Plug-It is now up to 3.6Mbps (prepaid).
Of course, actual speeds will vary with time of day and location. It’s going to be pretty hard to validate this but if you get better speed results recently, do leave a comment and let us all know.

Remember that TV commercial saying how good MSG was for you? Might as well be in China. False advertising with no consequences.
Just bought a Globe 4g pocket Wi-Fi. On the box it reads “4get up to 12mbps” The SIM that’s included is only capable of 2 and 3g. Wtf.

Nothing change! Really NO power at all!! just changed my old smartbro usb plug-it with this Power plug-It up to 5 MBPS kuno. still my daily connection is far way below 0.11 mbps esp from 10AM to 10 PM. Take note, i never ever experience to receive at least a maintained 0.30 mbps connection daily. Speed always go below that and and i haven’t seen my connection went up to at least more than 3 mbps kahit power burst speed na makita ko man lang yang 3 mbps na yan…WALA! and now they’re saying up to 5 mbps??!! ow common..false advertisement again..hope magkaron ng law abt this..kasi isa etong fraud or tuwirang panloloko sa mga subscribers! will not renew anymore, cannot tolerate the daily nightmares this poor connections have caused me. major major disappointment!!

kaka bili ko lang power plug it 5mbps, I live in Makati. walang kwenta. using speedtest.net 0.3Mbps lang normal, minsan 1Mbps tapos nag 3Mbps lang sa madaling araw for 30 mins. bihira mag disconnect pero ganun parin madalas mag crush ung mga flash appications especially youtube.

Smart – Simply Madaya!

This is true depending on your location. My average download speed using UNLISURF50 is 350 and would peak at 510.

Marvs says:
it’s not clear whether there’s a cap for the monthly usage assuming that you actually get near the 5mbps speed
Online School says:
chris ammerlaan says:
Just tried there power plugin, check if any improvement on there prepaid, nope, 42 kb/s with 3 bars of 3G. Smart full of bola-bola re speeds and only for prepaid.
Epstein says:
Kaya siguro ganun. I am also using Smartbro pre-paid but I wanted to switch to Sun.
kabz says:
The new speeds are for PREPAID subscribers only. SO LAME!
watrboy says:
yun na nga eh.. wala silang pakialam sa mga loyal subscriber, sa mga postpaid user.. i holdup ka for 12 or 24 months.. pagkatapos mo mag sign up at makakuha na sau ng pera ayun.. pababayaan ka na…
William C says:
Yeah right, you probably get that speed when you are near their cell towers, but Smart coverage is less consistent than Globe and in my area, I be lucky to get 150kbps, madalas pa nga, no 3g signal, and this is in Manila!
To YUGATECH: The see-through ads are a major nuisance, especially on mobile browsers, slow down thwebsite even on a dual-core android. I will never clik on those cheap Flights Philippines anyway…

I wish it is true. bagal ng gamit ko kasi. di man lang makapagdownload T_T
chris ammerlaan says:
using smartbroken fixed connection, getting between 150 and 190 Kb/s, was getting 300 odd kb/s last night, so now I know how smart increases speed for others lol
deuts says:
So far, even within the Ayala Center here in Makati, I find Smart’s network faster than Globe’s.
watrboy says:
tapos tingnan nyo ang canopy at wimax..
http://smart.com.ph/Smart_Revamp/ExternalPages/Bro/BroComparison.html
parehas eh 1mbps na lang..
watrboy says:
Arne says:
The other night around 2am while downloading songs using my HTC Desire S I was surprise when the download completed immediately which is very unusual., so I check the bandwidth speed using speed test for android and it registered 3.3mbps… Unlike the other nights before where I usually only get 1.5mbps at best,.. I’m from JP Rizal, Makati… so this might be true.. :))
Anti_Ponjin says:
The Smart(ass)Bro I used to have would just disconnect all by itself for no good reason at all. SUN works much better.
Watched the youtube video… Installations STARTS. not occurs. GEEZ. Get a Native English Speaker to proof read.
Spidey says:
Ahh, whatever!!
That is only plain advertisement… Since I moved to Sun Postpaid, I never had any problem.. Running for more than 6mos now. But with SmartBro??.. It was all pain in the ass the whole time… and then they ask me for a termination fee. For a very lousy service rendered.
onliinthephil says:
We have the same experience with Smart. Since I got my postpaid plug it kit last Jan 2010 I was terribly sorry with their service. I just have to finish my contract with them by next month. I will not recommend this to my fellows!!! Sorry SMART but you should have done your part whenever I would call your attention but you did NOTHING!!!
don pepot says:
they’re f*cking connection is so slow..
Boyong says:
You have to be stupid to actually think that these speeds are reliant on which plan you’re in.
If you’re using an HSPA device with that 5MBPS sim card, chance are you’ll get near 10MBPS. So do yourself a favor, skip the two-year contract, buy only the postpaid sim and insert it into an HSPA-capable dongle and bam… you just outsmarted Smart. (of course, the nearby cell site needs to be HSPA-ready too)
Jhay says:
Hey Smart, why don’t you do your postpaid subscribers a favor and first work on the erratic signals.
Cguro before you start approving applications, you should actually “sift through” the financial capacity of your subscribers and cap your daily bandwidth allocation to prepaid subscribers so they won’t abuse.
Other than that, you still suck.
chris ammerlaan says:
At the moment looks like SmartBro fixed connection is staying at 1Mb/s, maybe, just maybe smart wants to finish that service
jonaflormicfren says:
I’ll just assume that this is true, but have to confirm it before indulgence.
Jay Baratilla says:
I find my phone’s 3G and HSDPA much reliable using either USB or WIFI tethering. I compared it with a broadband plug it and the download and streaming rate maximum using my phone’s is way much higher than the plug it.
