Smart Communications recently announced that it is doubling the maximum download speeds of its Smart Bro Starter and Power Plug-Its.

The new maximum download speeds of the Starter and Power Plug-Its is now at 7.2Mbps and 12Mbps, respectively, under 3G and HSPA+ connections. “We’ve increased the top connection speeds of our Plug Its so that Smart Bro subs can explore more of the Internet on the country’s first and only 100% super-charged network,” said Smart Broadband Internet and Data Services Head Lloyd Manaloto.

The Smart Bro Starter Plug-It has a price tag of Php995 while the Smart Bro Power Plug-It has a price tag of Php1,245. Both Plug-Its are available in prepaid and postpaid. Take a look at the Smart Bro data packages below:

bat ganun yung sa connection status ng SMARTbro lte pocket wifi plus namin fake yung connetion status ng upload at download speed (http://192.168.1.1/index.html#home), compare sa network status ng computer, halos 2KBP/S lang!!!!. kahit mataas yung speed status sa ip ng broadband, sobra sa bagal sa browsing pa lang!

    • Avatar for edison edison says:

yung ststus nga umaabot ng 500kbps pagdating sa taskmanager>performance>resource monitor> Network status ng computer, nasa 10kbp/s lang yung received p/s!!! sa upload totoo yung count niya kasi nung nag upload ako match naman…

Sino related sa ganitong klaseng problema?

I called tech support to complain that although everything appears to be ok, I still can not connect. It worked well during the free 10 days but after that, I started getting slow connections. Now it will not auto-connect. clicking on the connect button does nothing. 5 bars, 3g preferred, w850+w2100.I reinstalled the smartbro app 3 times already, I tinkered with the services.msc for telephony, I played with the netconfig but did not solve it. I reinstalled my windows and it worked for 2 days, now i’m back to the same problem. Do I have to reinstall windows every time i will have this problem? tech support was of no help.

Not really that patay sa connection. I use the power plug it. Well it’s not that bad if you’re a heavy user like me. I download movies in the early wee hours of the day so that it can have a download speed of 200kpbs – 600kbps (that’s in torrent so if i ran speedtest.net usually speeds are average of 2mbps – 6mbps)

I does not have any cap limit plus 5 days of internet with ave speed of 3mbs is not that bad . Usually in the day, it goes down lower than 1mbps sometimes even lower than 500kbps but i don’t mind.

It’s usually just in the location.

  10. Avatar for striker striker says:

Yung first 7 days na free trial ng power plug it ko , mablis talaga umaabot sya ng 5mbps at take note 33% signal strength lang yan. Ngayon na naka unlisurf 85 ako ang max speed ko is around 300kbps lang, yeah its a 300KBPS………. regardless kung peek hour or not. and take note again its a HSDPA signal with 90-99% signal strength. Compare mo naman sa 33% signal strength nya. so sa tingin ko throttled ang connection pag prepaid kana!! so mag think twice ka muna.

Sa globe naman umaabot ako ng mga 7 mbps pero yari kanaman sa 800mb limit per day so useless din ang bilis

  11. Avatar for ken ken says:

may cap din ba ang smart bro power plug it? ung prepaid na 10pesos per 30 mins? tsaka kumusta naman ang speed usable ba sya ung ok ang surfing and download?

napansin ko yung unlisurf 50 sa Smart nag eextend yung expiration ng almost 12 hours, minsan kapag natxt na yung message na nag expire na yung subscription pero pag nag brows ka meron pa rin.Pero kapag nagprompt na sa web browser yung expiration dun lang talaga na tapos na yung subscription.

  18. Avatar for vince vince says:

    ang labo talaga

either by magic the old power plugit modems will suddenly now be able to recieve HSPA+ signal (their factory specs only allow HSDPA which is one step below that) or they are rebranding their rocket modems which are HSPA+ capable

  19. Avatar for meh meh says:

What about regular HSDPA on a cell phone prepaid? Why just this device?

  26. Avatar for analog analog says:

hindi malinaw yung detail ng “increased data rate”. do customers need to purchase another plug-it device with increased data rate (hardware upgrade) or is this a change in “network policy” on data rate for specified devices (by checking IMEI and other device specific information)? i dont have an old plug it device with me but if your device is only rated less than 7 mbps then there’s no chance you can get 7.2mbps / 12mbps download speed since it’s going to be a device limitation.

another thing is that you can only avail (or shall i say, have more chance) of having the maximum speed allowed if you register to ALWAYS ON. andami pang pasikot sikot. >.<

just a BS press release by smart here, NINJA press din style nila eh. puede straight to the point na lang ang details?

It seems that this is a great news for some of the broadband tech enthusiasts. However the fair usage policy aka bandwidth capping of the network is still a big problem for all the subscribers out there. Like in this link: http://www.pldthome.com/mybroFUP.html when the user hits 15GB bandwidth limit, the download speed will be brought to 200kbps. Also, Globe has also implement this issue on their Tattoo Lineup.

    • Avatar for Anonymous Anonymous says:

The FUP (fair usage policy) doesn’t apply to Smart Bro plug-it devices. However, if you do subscribe to the Unlisurf services, you won’t get the highest possible speed (in other terms, to be able to get the fastest speed, you need to subscribe to the Always ON plans which are capped)

    • Avatar for hohumm hohumm says:

As a common tao subscribed to these offers get easily robbed of their hard earned money by these telcos. we and all these providers know that they cannot really meet realistic speed and consistent signal contrary to their claims in their ads. typical poor low standard public utility. thats the reality for now…………

    • Avatar for ren ren says:

tama ka dyan, pawang kalukuhan lng lahat ang mga ads nila, eh sa area namin nawawala pa ang signal ng smart. dito lang ako sa paranaque nyan ha. tapos bigla pa kakainin ang load mo kahit d pa expire always on mo.

    • Avatar for Pat Pat says:

The fastest DL speed I got is 300kbps. Which is already broadband speed. pero hindi sya lagi nangyayare.
