Smart Communications recently announced that it is doubling the maximum download speeds of its Smart Bro Starter and Power Plug-Its.
The new maximum download speeds of the Starter and Power Plug-Its is now at 7.2Mbps and 12Mbps, respectively, under 3G and HSPA+ connections. “We’ve increased the top connection speeds of our Plug Its so that Smart Bro subs can explore more of the Internet on the country’s first and only 100% super-charged network,” said Smart Broadband Internet and Data Services Head Lloyd Manaloto.
The Smart Bro Starter Plug-It has a price tag of Php995 while the Smart Bro Power Plug-It has a price tag of Php1,245. Both Plug-Its are available in prepaid and postpaid. Take a look at the Smart Bro data packages below:

Hmmm…

It seems that this is a great news for some of the broadband tech enthusiasts. However the fair usage policy aka bandwidth capping of the network is still a big problem for all the subscribers out there. Like in this link: http://www.pldthome.com/mybroFUP.html when the user hits 15GB bandwidth limit, the download speed will be brought to 200kbps. Also, Globe has also implement this issue on their Tattoo Lineup.
Anonymous says:
The FUP (fair usage policy) doesn’t apply to Smart Bro plug-it devices. However, if you do subscribe to the Unlisurf services, you won’t get the highest possible speed (in other terms, to be able to get the fastest speed, you need to subscribe to the Always ON plans which are capped)
hohumm says:
As a common tao subscribed to these offers get easily robbed of their hard earned money by these telcos. we and all these providers know that they cannot really meet realistic speed and consistent signal contrary to their claims in their ads. typical poor low standard public utility. thats the reality for now…………
ren says:
The fastest DL speed I got is 300kbps. Which is already broadband speed. pero hindi sya lagi nangyayare.

another trap! beware

Yon oh says:

vince says:
does this apply to all smart bro power and starter plugits or do we have to buy new dongles/sign up for new plans?
smartbroken says:
Just tried a speed test..
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2647039325.png
here’s the result: .77Mbps for download and .40Mbps for upload..
allan says:
maganda p nga syo! akin 0.09mbps download tapos 0.18mbps upload ping is 184 grabee!!
analog says:
hindi malinaw yung detail ng “increased data rate”. do customers need to purchase another plug-it device with increased data rate (hardware upgrade) or is this a change in “network policy” on data rate for specified devices (by checking IMEI and other device specific information)? i dont have an old plug it device with me but if your device is only rated less than 7 mbps then there’s no chance you can get 7.2mbps / 12mbps download speed since it’s going to be a device limitation.
another thing is that you can only avail (or shall i say, have more chance) of having the maximum speed allowed if you register to ALWAYS ON. andami pang pasikot sikot. >.<
just a BS press release by smart here, NINJA press din style nila eh. puede straight to the point na lang ang details?
