Smart grabs the Nokia N9, free at Plan 3500

Looks like Smart Comm. grabbed the exclusive rights to sell the Nokia N9 in the Philippines, according to @Jump_Center in a tweet to us a few minutes ago.

This message is from @Jump_Center:

@abeolandres The Nokia N9 is exclusive to Smart. The 16GB is FREE at All-in Plan 3500 & the 64GB is w/ P1,200 cash-out. Live demo in Jump.

There you go:

Nokia N9 16GB – Free at Smart All-In Plan 3500
Nokia N9 64GB – Free at Smart All-In Plan 3500 + Php1,200 cash-out

No idea on what the prepaid price would be but considering all other handsets that came free with All-In Plan 3500 like the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and BlackBerry Bold 9900, we can pretty much figure out what’s that going to be.

I bought mine yesterday in sm city annex bldg. I got the white 64GB for P27,700.

  2. Jacob says:

MeeGo was jointly developed by Nokia and Intel. Without a word, Nokia dumped MeeGo in favor of Windows Mobile, leaving Intel on its own to continue or junk MeeGo. Considering Intel’s next moves, it appears they will really give up on MeeGo in favor of Android that will soon be optimized for Atom. Sad way to go for what appears to be a good software. Great review, Abe. I will get one myself, just for the heck of it :-)

    • Apollo says:

Actually, Intel will not be discarding it’s MeeGo line. Along with the authorization / partnership of Linux Foundation and their new partner, Samsung. MeeGo will be updated to Tizen. Check Tizen.org for more information.

  3. me says:

    blackberry? lol.

Anyway, maganda n9 kaso hindi siya kasing customizable gaya ng android. I like android kaso ang papanget ng itsura ng phones. N9 talaga pinakamaganda design para sakin. I don’t care much about games. I’ll surely buy this kung mas customizable siya. madali kasi ako magsawa sa ui. sana may mga themes din to.

  4. zeratul88 says:

crap from nokia again. These days is always Apple vs Samsung vs Blackberry. Focus na lang Nokia sa low to mid level handsets.

    • Lei says:

You don’t call something crap simply because of brand bias, and most particularly if you haven’t owned and used one, just because you can’t afford. And it’s not apple vs samsung vs blackberry. It’s Nokia vs the world, and they’re not retreating. How narrowminded can people be these days.

  5. leemar says:

i like the design and OS, fresh looking pati interface, i hope they support this handset and put more updates in the future,

  6. RaGe says:

I had high hopes with MeeGo before, I was even waiting for Nokia to release one right away pero since it’s taking time I switched to Android.

Nokia still has its charm, I’m still impressed with N8 and C7 if only they can make their price tag lower, they can compete with Android handsets.

    hahahaha

    Android Phone pa rin ^_^

  9. Viva La Nokia says:

Actually people, this beauty is sold at approximately 24k PHP sa Kuala Lumpur.

So kung magagawi kayo sa KL. This is the thing to buy. Medyo mataas pa talaga ang presyo kasi kakalabas pa lang.

Kumpara naman sa iToy. Naku, kinopya lang ang Android at nilagyan ng Siri 40k na! Kakabaliw.

  10. jonaflormicfren says:

It is not wise to have this one at that price.

  11. kaiji says:

i was able to try the n9 in jump.
it was smaller than what i expected.
swabe yung interface niya and snappy.
was only able to try it for a few minutes,
just try it for yourself if you have the time.
if its cheaper than s2 i’m definitely buying 1

  12. Marc says:

holy shit ang mahal naman nito. haha to think na obsolete na ang nokia both the handset and the system. and im quite sure the value of this and other nokia phones will go down fast. not a good investment. wel thats my opinion:-)

  13. caveman says:

“Shame on those who has nothing to blab but negative things about Nokia. Your iPhone or Sensation or Galaxy SII don’t even come close to the E7… “

if you think your E7 can even go head to head with the phones you mentioned, then you are a delusional idiot…

    • sanji_boy says:

Ahaha, yeah you’re absolutely right sir! Sluggish Nokia E7-00 with EDoF camera not to mention the OS. Android is better, iOS the best, oh and by the way its just my opinion.

  14. lei says:

I am getting one! If I have to get another postpaid line with Smart I will. There’s just too much nonsense bragging here from people who, in reality, know nothing! And don’t compare other OSs to Symbian or Meego if you haven’t used and OWNED high-end devices from these OSs. Shame on those who has nothing to blab but negative things about Nokia. Your iPhone or Sensation or Galaxy SII don’t even come close to the E7. Nokia isn’t just aboud cheap aesthetics and physicalities, it’s about the real essence of a phone..how you use and why you use it. If you got no positive thing to say about the N9, go to your favorite device’s review and leave positive comments. Live your life in positivity and not blab about your nonsense!

    • Jolina Magdangal says:

That’s right! And that REAL multitasking feature of this phone really sold me. You can never go wrong with Nokia when it comes to hardware.

I’ll wait for yuga’s review first so I can decide whether to buy it or not.

Re: comment on the handset being “obsolete” – WHY IS THIS HANDSET OBSOLETE? It’s innovative and it’s not a copycat of other phones.

    • bri says:

android and iOS user here but this phone definitely deserves a second look. ganda ng porma.. sana maganda rin ang apps..

“Shame on those who has nothing to blab but negative things about Nokia. Your iPhone or Sensation or Galaxy SII don’t even come close to the E7… “- hehe, parang bumalik sayo mga sinabi mo..

real essence of a phone? call and text, some emailing/browsing on the side? those three phones that you lambasted perform those things in an excellent way.. plus more.. also, if your going to shell out more than 15k for phone, you expect it to do more than the basic functions.. just sayin’

    • Jologs says:

I completely agree. I am a hardcore ios user but i think this thing’s a real beauty. Will wait for the hands on review before i give my 2 cents. I do not want to appear like a troll. Hehehe. Isa lang yan, kung ayaw, e di wag! Walang basagan ng trip. Hehehe.

On another note, i hope this will be available for plan 1200. I just might get it if the cash out is reasonable.

  15. Kannuchi says:

Shame on commenters who seem to be judgemental and full of bias. We may know androids are becoming popular, but have they tested running apps on these beside other OS? They maybe eye-catching, but many Filipinos nowadays are easily fooled by fancy UI accompanied by lower price.

  16. anime says:

Its a shame that many Filipinos are saying bad things to a product that they’ve never been tested. Wala pa ngang hands on experience kung ano ano na pinagsasasab

  17. klmn says:

    u know what guys?
i wont say a thing if i have just seen or even tried it.
i would comment if i bought the n9 and it made me hate it rather than hating it without making me hate it. duh. its not the old nokia phones you guys bought. its N9 -meego harmattan not symbian^3.
stop hating and showing love for android. it wont make you rich. it will just show how unhappy and uncontented you are in life.

  18. Ani_Kimchi says:

WOW! It can play a game. Angry Birds. Notice I typed “a” game as in ONE GAME! My point is don’t advertise it can play games. I don’t buy phones for games.

Abe wrote: “No idea on what’s the prepaid price would be”. There’s no need for the apostrophe s.

    • Sonos says:

I believe that you are not the only one Nokia is targeting with this device. Notice I typed “only one” as in YOU! My point is, they need to advertise that it runs game apps because most people buy phones for games hence the decline of mobile game consoles (nintendo and sony).

The most popular iPhone apps are games. See below link:
      http://www.pcworld.com/article/169882/most_popular_iphone_apps_unlike_other_phones.html

  19. seraphica_seven says:

well.. kung sa bagay.. it might have been better if its OS is Android…

  20. daniel says:

super mahal. bat ka pa bibili ng cellphone na laos na hindi pa nilalabas?

    • enter says:

      mahal ba?

Di ka naman pinipilit bumili. Saka baka talaga lang di mo kaya ang presyo. Lol!

  21. BiboKid says:

    holy cow. Ang mahal!

  22. RaGe says:

ang mahal tapos you can’t expect to have updates or even apps on it..ang mahal for an almost dead OS

    • RaGe says:

      sige na ikaw na magaling…
I’m not bitter, I’m only sharing my opinion.

I don’t have time to argue with fanboys, seriously…so I just hope you’re not one of them.

Thanks for correcting me anyway :)

    • anonymous says:

yeah… better read first before commenting… the first update of n9 is jampack…

    • fuschia says:

how can you say its a dead OS? it will be having its first update in few weeks with 3500 updates, apps? well, all android apps will be ported thru alien dalvik. mga walang alam, mga bitter cause you cant afford it, haha

  23. Christopher says:

Just like I said on N9 here in Yugatech before… put Android on that thing and it will sell like hotcakes. It is better in design and @ par in specs on what is already out there for Android. IMHO, the design is the killer. :)

  24. Cheftonio says:

As interesting as the new features seem to be in the N9, N8 was the final point where I decided not to get a Nokia anymore.

Last year, I got the N8. Pretty disappointing in terms of mobile phone usage (SMS & Calls). Hard to type and very slow response (lag).

Photo quality is ok. Great as an emergency photo/video camera.

After the N8, won’t be buying another Nokia.

    • anime boy says:

      @jayvee
Wp7 is the closest os around comparable to iOS in terms of functionality and smoothness. I lold when you put wp7 at the same level as symbian

    • Jayvee Tenorio says:

It’s funny that we share the same experience. I actually had my N8 dumped and it’s now with my brother. It’s actually a good phone minus the sluggish performance and the crappy OS. I had high hopes for Symbian^3 until I actually tried Android up. The latter just blew me away in visuals and functionality. After my N8, I swore not to consider a Nokia again for a primary handset. Either WP7 or Symbian is already too boring for a mobile phone platform. Now I still can’t take my eyes off my Optimus Black after 2 days of playing with it. It’s 20x better than my N8. I swear!

    • Jerome says:

If you still have your N8, upgrade it to Symbian Anna. Way better than Symbian ^3. Also its expected to have Symbian Belle soon.

  25. BoRiS says:

how about on plans 1800 and 2500? may idea ka kuya Abe kung how much yung cash-out? :)
